Players will be competing for a prize pool of $3 million dollars, with $1 million dollars being exclusively available in the Global Series championship event.

The Global Series marks the first esports league for the popular battle royale game that recently took home the “Best Multiplayer Game” Game Award.

Vice Zampella, the Head of Respawn Entertainment, recognizes the importance of esports and understands that it will have a major impact on the future of the game:

“Competition is at the heart of Apex Legends. We expect that esports will play a big role in the future of Apex Legends and it all starts here with the Apex Legends Global Series.”

PC players from over 60 countries who meet the minimum age requirement and PC system requirements will be eligible to compete in the Global Series. This was an intentional design choice by Respawn to give most players the opportunity to compete, and was highlighted by the Apex Legends Competitive Gaming Commissioner John Nelson:

“Through close communication with our community, we’ve built an accessible Apex Legends ecosystem where any player can become a potential star while the world watches our unique, entertaining take on Battle Royal esports.”

Most players will begin their competitive journey in the online tournaments where they can begin earning Apex Legends Global Series Points.

This point system was first displayed in the Apex Legends Preseason invitational and requires teams to obtain a certain amount of points through match placements and kills. Players who prove their worth in the online tournaments will have the opportunity to qualify for live events such as Premier and Challenger Events and can also immediately qualify for one of the three Major events.

Challenger events will give “local talent an opportunity to shine”, and winners of these events will be able to compete in the open stage of Major events.

Premier events are global live events that feature the top online players from around the world and provide an opportunity to move directly into the playoff stage of a Major event.

There will also be ‘Last Chance” online tournaments that give individuals another shot at making it directly to the Championship event.

There will be four Major Events with the last being the Championship Event. The Majors will pit the top performers from online tournaments, Challenger events, and Premier Events against one another. The first three Majors will consist of 100 three-player squads, and the final Global Series Championship will consist of only the top 60 teams in the world. The winning team will take home the title of World Champion and the $1 Million dollar prize.

The first online tournament will take place on January 25 and 27, and registration will open in early January. The first Major will take place March 13-15, 2020 and will be held at Esports Stadium Arlington in Arlington, Texas.

All Apex Legends Global Series Major and Premier Events will be live-streamed through official channels that will be announced at a later date. Fans will also be able to attend the live events, and more details and information will be added on the official Apex Legends website as we get closer to the actual events.

Any players interested in competing can register here, so get your team together and get ready for a shot at the title.
