The battle royale genre exploded onto the scene during the 2010's. With the rise in prominence of the genre, Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts partnered to launch Apex Legends. Respawn Entertainment was founded by Jason West and Vince Zampella after leaving Infinity Ward, the studio that worked on several Call of Duty games. Respawn first made their splash as a company with their Titanfall series. With a wealth of experience creating AAA FPS games, Respawn brought plenty of knowledge to the creation of Apex Legends. Like other Battle Royale Games, Apex Legends sees players drop onto an island where they must scavage and fight for armor weapons, attachments, and more. Apex Legends separates itself by adding a class-based approach. Before every game, players will select one of several Legends, each with their own unique skills and gameplay mechanics. Additionally, Respawn introduced some varied movement tech to the game, that they developed working on CoD and Titanfall. Something that many other battle royale games would later implement.
