EA released an official statement today explaining why that the event will be postponed and held on a new date in the near future. The Apex Legends Global Series Online Tournament #2 will still take place on March 21st and 23rd.

EA also postponed the FIFA 20 Global Series CONMEBOL eLIbertadores Online & Live Event. The FUT Champions Cup Stage V event and the PlayStation Licensed Qualifying Event are canceled until further notice.

Spectators of the events will receive a full refund in 4-6 weeks and EA will also begin shifting their focus to reimbursing competitors for air travel/ hotel expenses.

EA stated that this was a tough decision and that they will provide more information on the events when available:

These decisions don’t come easy, but given the large, global nature of these events, we believe that making these changes are in the best interest of protecting the health of the community, including competitors, attendees and staff.

Apex fans are not the first to be disappointed about an esports event being canceled or postponed. The coronavirus has severely impacted several esports leagues and events throughout the last few weeks. The Final Kombat Last Chance Qualifier was canceled today and the FLASHPOINT Counter Strike League has announced they are moving all of their events to Los Angeles, CA.
