October 15, 2019 marks the ten-year anniversary of League of Legends. For this momentous occasion, Riot Games has some surprises planned.

The tweet links to an announcement on the League of Legends website states that on October 15 at 6:00 p.m. PST (9:00 p.m. EST), Riot will stream a special edition of Riot PIs, a show focused on informing the players of new changes coming to League of Legends.

In addition, Riot have created a new and modernized logo for League of Legends going into its second decade. The sleek, bezel-less letter design definitely looks the part for a new generation of LoL, although many will be sad about the departure of the familiar crest that has greeted them for years upon logging in.

The worldwide gaming phenomenon was inspired by a familiar Warcraft III mod known as Defense of the Ancients back in 2009, but has distinguished itself from other titles within the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) genre.

Riot Games estimates over 100 million people play League of Legends monthly. In addition, LoL has one of the largest esports scenes in the world, leading the way for competitive gaming as both a career and a pastime for viewers. Their most recent international tournament, The Mid-Season Invitational 2019, peaked at 1.7 million western viewers. The 2019 World Championships, a month-long tournament that will showcase the top talent that game has to offer, are just around the corner as well.

Regardless of what direction the game heads in, League of Legends will continue to be an industry leader in creating an enjoyable gaming experience for all. Happy ten-year anniversary, and here’s to ten more.
