FPX has been looking to enter the CS:GO scene for a year now. The organization was involved in the current Heroic roster back in March 2020, during their attendance at the Flashpoint 1 tournament. However, deals seem to have failed, and the FPX franchise slot in Flashpoint took a back seat for 2020.

Now the organization has entered the European space. The team has acquired the core leftover from the ex-GODSENT roster. GODSENT went on to sign a Brazilian team featuring some of the former MiBR players. The now FPX roster consists of Pavle “maden” Boskovic, Asger “farlig” Jensen, Jesse “zeHn” Linjala, and Martin “STYKO” Styk, with coach Jonatan “Devilwalk” Lundberg. Players have joined FPX on a three-year contract, certifying FPX’s interests on remaining in the CS:GO space.

The new FunPlus Phoenix team was a decent tier 2 team in 2020. They were on the rise in online events against fellow T2 teams. By the end of 2020, DreamHack invited the former GODSENT roster to break into Tier 1 CS:GO with an invite to DreamHack Winter 2020, due to their continuous improvement. The team surprised many top tier teams, beating out Astralis in a round one upset, and then taking out North in the Lower Bracket to qualify for the playoffs. From there, they beat Heroic in the quarterfinals, before losing to mousesports in the semifinals.

FPX’s roster will debut in the upcoming DreamHack Open January event, kicking off on January 27th. FPX only has two more days to reveal who their 5th player is; otherwise, they may not be eligible to compete or will have to make do with Devilwalk retuning to the server.
