Free Fortnite skins are some of the updates that get players especially excited. The game gets tons of skins, but most are paid. Quite a few are accessible through the Battle Pass, and while you get your V-Bucks back, it does still cost something. Entirely free Fortnite skins, though, they’re a bit rarer. But they do pop up pretty frequently. Even a free Fortnite car skin or two.

At the moment, you’ll likely see free Fortnite skins in-game quite a bit being ran by other players. Whenever there’s new free Fortnite skins, those who don’t buy skins make the switch from the last free skin to the new one! This means that at the moment, you’ll find quite a few Juice WRLD skins in lobbies along with Snoop Dogg in a Santa outfit. Most of the best Fortnite players sport paid skins, but you can unlock quite a few if you go after every free Fortnite skin.

If you want to know how to Get Free Skins in Fortnite, the method does vary. There’s even a brand-new form of free skin in Chapter 6 Season 4. There’s been three new Fortnite skins added in a single season recently! There’s some new free Fortnite skins available, as well as some of the older ones.

These are the current methods for how to get them.

Current Free Fortnite skins

The end of last year saw quite a few new free Fortnite skins added to the game, and the current one has introduced another handful to get players back into the game. However, most of them were only available for a limited time. Usually, you have to get on the free skin offers quickly. There are quite a few out there at the moment though.

These are all of the current free Fortnite skins that are available for players to unlock:

Spartan

This season, one of the free Fortnite skins is a bit unique. While this skin is in the first slot of the Battle Pass, it’s also a free skin! There’s two ways to get it.

The first is to buy the Battle Pass and get it instantly. Obviously, that’s not the method for how to get free skins in Fortnite. You can also get up to Level 100, then you get it without owning the Battle Pass this season. The Spartan skin is a fun way to do the Battle Pass this season, maybe one free skin per pass will become a permanent feature.

Thrilldiver

Another new free Fortnite skin is Thrilldiver. This one only launched recently. Players could get it by connecting to the Vivo streaming service. It’s basically location locked free Fortnite skins. It’s not available to everyone, which could be a bit annoying. If you are in the right region though, the process to unlock the Vivo Fortnite skin is quite simple.

Explorer Emile

One of the older free Fortnite skins which is still available is Explorer Emile. It’s a skin that was originally added back when the Lego modes first launched. This one tied into the Lego mode which is now known as Odyssey. It was a reward for linking up your account to the Lego account system.

To do this, you’ll need to go to the Lego website and set up a specific Lego account.

Once this is done, you should receive the free Lego Fortnite skin! It’s not the most exciting design, but a lot of players still make use of it in lobbies. It’s always good to get an extra skin for free too. This one doesn’t currently have an expiry date.

Trailblazer Tai

The next of the free Fortnite skins available at the moment is Trailblazer tai. It’s another skin which was released to celebrate the Lego mode launching. Like Explorer, this one has been around for quite a while too, over a year now, and it doesn’t seem to have an expiry date.

To unlock this one, you just need to complete the basic Lego Fortnite quests. Most players who joined the mode have likely already completed these. While the mode isn’t going to help you polish your skills for Fortnite competitive, it does have a lot of XP. So, these quests in particular were a favorite for those at the end of their Battle Pass, hoping to finish off a few more quests. Trailblazer Tai will unlock just for finishing up the necessary quests.

Mr. Dappermint

Mr Dappermint is the most recent free Fortnite skin that’s still available. This one is a bit of a weird case though. It’s a few years old but was initially a paid skin. Then, last Christmas it was made free.

The skin wasn’t handed out as part of the Fortnite Winterfest event though. Instead, it was added to the Lego Fortnite promotions. It’s a second skin you’ll unlock for connecting your Lego and Fortnite accounts. The steps to do it are the same for Explorer Emile. A lot of players actually just unlocked it automatically, since their accounts were still linked.

When Can You Get Free Fortnite Skins?

Free Fortnite skins can pop up at any time, but there’s times where we expect to get new free outfits. Often, in a time limited promotion, where you’ll need to log in that week to unlock it. The biggest of these is Winterfest.

Every year, we get Winterfest as a holiday event. A two-week period with special quests, but also free prizes to unlock. One per day. The biggest of these are free skins. We’ve got holiday skins like a Christmas tree man, versions of the sweat skins you see in Fortnite esports events, and even a Snoop Dogg skin. These were all free. But they were exclusive to their very first year. They don’t come back, so players who didn’t unlock them at the time can’t collect them again.

Then, there’s the other free Fortnite skins. These have typically been arriving to celebrate new additions to Fortnite. In recent years, that’s been a big source of free Fortnite skins. When Fortnite gets new modes or moves to a particularly hyped chapter, there’s often a giveaway. The recent Fortnite Remix season saw a few free skins given away. As did the return of the game to mobile in some of the Fortnite servers on iOS.

If you want to unlock all the free Fortnite skins that you can, you’ll need to make sure you’re watching for updates during these promos! Most of the free skins have a limited time release and don’t come back. There are more methods for how to get free skins in Fortnite than in the past though.

How to Get Free Fortnite Skins

The exact method for how to get free Fortnite skins is dependent on the offer. Sometimes it’s down to completing quests. In others, you just need to connect up your account with Fortnite and unlock your new free skin. All you’ll need to do is keep an eye on the in-game news and promotions, see which style of giveaway is going on.

Of course, the most sustainable way to get free Fortnite skins is by making use of the Battle Pass cycle. Your first cycle isn’t free if you’re in a hurry. However, players do get some free V-Bucks every season. After completing your free pass each season, you’ll eventually get enough for a Battle Pass. As long as you show restraint with the V-Bucks in the item shop, you’ll be able to chain each Battle Pass, and collect quite a few different skins from Fortnite seasons through the pass.

Past Free Fortnite Skins

Sunny Punk

One of the most recent free Fortnite skins that players have only just missed out on is Sunny punk. This skin was given out to those who won a Six Stack game of Blitz Royale over a weekend when the Marvel season launched. It’s a nice new version of a classic skin.

Free Fortnite Car Skin

The most recent addition to the free skins is a new car. It’s a skin of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. It’s a sports car which can replace the generic ones in Fortnite. This is the new free car for the Summer Road Trip.

Those are a series of quests we’ve had the last two years. Each year gives away a different car. You don’t get as many free cars, so it’s worth completing the quests in time to unlock them.

Burnoff

Another of the recent free Fortnite skins celebrates the game coming back to iOS. It’s a racer skin which you can unlock by logging into the game on iOS or Android. If you’re in a region where this is possible, it’s simple. If you’re not, then you can’t unlock it. But it will rotate through the Item Shop eventually, if you want to spend V-Bucks on it instead.

Burnoff was a nice addition. Who knows why a racer was the best design to go with for iOS. But it’s always good to get something for free.

Stormtrooper

With the weapons in the mini season being all blasters and best landing spots Star Wars themed, we also got a free Fortnite skin for Galactic Battle. Players could unlock the Stormtrooper skin by linking their Disney and Fortnite accounts.

There’s been loads of stormtroopers so far but if you don’t have one or just like collecting the different varieties, then this is available freely for a little while longer.

Blitz Royale – Blitz Knight Free Skin

The latest of the free Fortnite skins is Blitz Knight to expire. A special hooded knight figure that was added for the Blitz Royale in one of the Fortnite updates. To unlock it, players have two options.

The first is to win games of Blitz Royale. But it isn’t a single win like your victory brella, you need to win 20 different matches. Otherwise, players can earn 10 account levels. This second solution probably works for most people since there’s so long left on the Battle Pass for this season. This skin was available until July 15th. It’ll be in and out of the item shop if you really want it though.

Iridia Vayne

This free Fortnite skin was introduced with a handful of others for Galactic Battle. It utilizes a method of unlocking which Epic tends to prefer when the play time is getting a bit low. To unlock the rewards, players need to join together with a friend, and then grind XP. Lots and lots of XP.

You’ll need to do 60K XP in Epic or Creative modes, each day, until you unlock all of the rewards. It’s a grind. It has the same unlock method as some past skins and each of these offers has come when player numbers dip.
