If you want to start in Fortnite esports or just know when to watch streams, we’ve got all the key details for the new tournaments. What’s being offered, when, the major changes, and what’s going to be different with how the game is played.
The new season is here, which means a whole new batch of Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 tournaments! It doesn’t matter if you’re competing or just following the action along to watch the top players, there’s a lot of different events you’ll need to be aware of. We’ve got the FNCS Major 2, but also more cash cups, OG events, and Ranked tournaments. Every level of Fortnite esports has something to do in the Fortnite C6 S2 tournaments.

The Fortnite tournaments this season are divided into a few different tiers. In the official tournaments handled by Epic, these are the events you can find:

The FNCS is the biggest event is competitive Fortnite and this season it’s returning for another Major. The first in C6 S1, was maybe our tightest FNCS to date. With the winner of the tournament champion title coming down to a tiny point difference. Everyone is awaiting the rematch later this season.
Of course, the FNCS this season is still running in its new format. Meaning players can’t just turn up for a few weeks. Well, everyone who isn’t one of the best players can’t. The qualification process is once again longer. Based on performance in Major 1, players will be placed into different Divisional Cups. They’ll compete weekly to try and rise up the divisions. With the best performing teams joining Fortnite Pros in the actual tournament at the end of the season. The FNCS stretching all through the season, and begins very soon.
Then we get the Major itself. First round is the Last Chance Qualifier, followed by a Group Stage, before eventually our final weekend. It’s the most exciting tournament in Fortnite esports. This Major will be just as interesting as the last. We’re going from the first big event on a new map, to passing the halfway point. After Major 2, teams only have one more chance to compete for a slot at that LAN. Making their performance in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 tournaments vital to avoid being stuck competing for the final slot.

Along with the FNCS, the other C6 S2 tournaments are quite wide. We’re getting a bunch of other events too. A lot of these aren’t featuring cash prizes anymore. As Epic is cutting down on those to stop giving money to cheaters. However, there are still quite a few places where players can compete for prizes. These are the other events which are on the calendar right now:

The Fortnite OG Cups are some of the most exciting on the roster right now because they’re completely different. It’s not played in the Chapter 6 Season 2 build of the game. Instead, the OG Cups are in the throwback mode. A chance to play tournaments in the days of 3,000 builds and stripped back weapons once again. A simpler time for Fortnite, but these Cups have lobbies with modern skills.

For a lot of players, Ranked Cups are the entry level tournaments. The opportunity to test out tournaments, not really intended for going up against the best Fortnite trios. Even more important now you need to play in a set amount of tournaments before you can play for cash. It’s not played for a cash prize, but you do compete for an exclusive free cosmetic. It matches whatever Rank you reach.
What’s nice about the Ranked Cups compared to the other Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 tournaments is players competing against their own ranks. They aren’t all in one big lobby. It can be a good way to try tournaments out against those in your skill level.

Cash Cups are still on the roster for Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 tournaments! These are mainly played in the Solo Cash Cup format for the C6 S2 tournaments. Where you don’t have to put a team together to take part. The Cash Cups are a more casual format. Great players do compete, but they’re the type of Fortnite tournaments where you stand a chance even if you’re not in the FNCS yet.

Those are the main tournaments being ran by Epic this season, but what are the big chances? As ever, the change in seasonal balance will affect things quite a bit. Players won’t be able to just use the same tactics as last season, although plenty has stuck around.
You’ll likely still see players using mainly the Holo twister and Pump in competitive. The power of these two weapons hasn’t been dented in the slightest by the recent season change. Although, the other weapons will alter gameplay quite a bit. Mobility is low right now with the Void Mask gone. But a different version of the Rocket Ram is coming soon, which should be interesting for build fights. There’s still the change to Fortnite severs that came last season to keep in mind too.
Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 tournaments will so far be played with the normal version of the game. It doesn’t look like too many items will be removed. At the outset of the season, there isn’t anything that’s excluded from tournament loot pool. Of course, just because an item is in competitive it doesn’t mean you’ll see it. We frequently see players ignore an entire slices of the loot pool in tournaments.
Normally this does expand as the season goes on though, so keep an eye out to see how the loot pool changes as we move through the season.
The other major changes are continuing their actions on cheaters from last season. That’s including requiring players to use anti-cheat software. This is all explained in the tournament rules. More than ever, it’s going to be important to be consistent in competing in events. You’ll need to play in multiple to build the account to play in the big events. With so many Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 tournaments planned though, there’s plenty of opportunities to get involved.
