The Philadelphia Fusion announced on Monday that it signed Dong-jun “Rascal” Kim. The player was a free agent after he left Shock’s roster at the conclusion of the 2020 OWL season.

Rascal is a Tracer specialist who many experts consider to be one of the world’s best DPS players. While competing with San Francisco Shock, Rascal was an essential contributor to their back-to-back season championship wins in OWL season 2 and season 3. Unfortunately, Shock didn’t offer the player the amount of playtime that he deserved last season due to an overconcentration of DPS talent on the team.

In joining Philly, Rascal joins an already stacked DPS lineup. Fusion’s roster currently features legendary hitscan DPS player Jae-hyeok “Carpe” Lee, upcoming hitscan DPS talent Niclas “sHockWave” Jensen, and Fusion’s star flex DPS player Josh “Eqo” Corona. Carpe and Eqo served as the team’s primary DPS last year. But with Rascal’s addition to the team, they will now have a more versatile set of DPS strategies at their disposal.

It is rumored that Philly signed Rascal because it is having issues with getting a visa for EQO, who is Israeli. However, official sources have not yet confirmed this rumor.

The Fusion will be competing in the Asian Pacific region in season 4. Other teams that have competed in that region ran into visa issues in the wake of the global pandemic. Most notably, the L.A. Valiant dropped its entire NA-based roster because of visa issues related to its relocation to the APAC division.

Regardless of why Fusion signed Rascal, he is a huge pick-up for the team. Fusion had a great year in 2020, and the team is a clear contender to win the 2021 season championship. The new OWL season is scheduled to kick off on April 16th, 2021.
