What are the best Fortnite pickaxes? There are thousands of different options for players. The pickaxe in your locker might not be the focus, but it can really set an outfit off. Pickaxes have gotten pretty varied too. A lot of them have little relevance to the actual harvesting tools we used to use, it doesn’t have to actually be capable of smashing rocks anymore. Instead, the best Fortnite pickaxes can be pretty much anything.

10 Best Fortnite Pickaxes in 2025

Pickaxes aren’t as flashy as the best Fortnite skins. When you’re facing enemies, a lot of the time you might not even notice what pickaxe they’re using. But they’re an important part of your loadout. They can pair with your choice of skin great and help to create a much more solidified locker slot. Beyond that, there’s some Fortnite pickaxes which have been important for the game’s development and community over the years.

These are the best Fortnite pickaxes in the game right now:

10 Best Fortnite Pickaxes

10. Throwback Axe

First, we’ve got the pickaxe that pretty much everyone used in earlier Fortnite seasons at one point or another. The Throwback Axe.

This was the old default Fortnite pickaxe. It was what players used when they didn’t have their own pickaxe. Since then, the Throwback Axe is now available in the Item Shop instead. Great to complete nostalgic locker slots, like pairing with the original defaults.

9. Ice Breaker

For some reason, this is the most used Fortnite pickaxe in Chapter 6! It’s an ice breaker, but as a pickaxe. The most used Fortnite skins tend to be recognizable as popular for a specific reason. From sweats loving them to being in the current pass. The Ice Breaker is a little weird though. But as the most used it fits as one of the best Fortnite pickaxes.

8. Energy Sword

Next is a more recent addition, the Energy Sword added in Chapter 6 Season 4! This is one of the most iconic items in gaming. Of course, it’s not actually an energy sword. It doesn’t deal the same kind of damage as it does in Halo. But it’s great to see it represented in Fortnite.

The original Halo Fortnite collab didn’t use the Energy Sword. But when the Sentinel skin and Halo Fortnite collab arrived in Chapter 6, we finally got the energy sword! Since this is such a well-remembered weapon, it goes with pretty much any skin too!

7. Candy Axe

Next is Candy Axe. It’s also among the most popular Fortnite pickaxes. This one was introduced in 2017, so quite early in the run of Fortnite seasons. It’s one of the best Fortnite pickaxes with a Christmas theme. It featured quite a price tag for a pickaxe too, at 1,500 V-Buck. It’ll pair well with most christmas skins though.

6. Leviathan Axe

The Leviathan Axe is one of the most used Fortnite pickaxes. Some of its appeal is obvious, it has a more epic feel than just using a shovel. It came with the Kratos skin, one of the more requested returning Fortnite collabs. It’s the iconic axe wielded by Kratos in the God of War games, with a unique effect too

5. Merry Mint Axe

The Merry Mint axe is one of the best Fortnite pickaxes for a more unique reason. A fairly plain Christmas pickaxe, this one was obtainable in a strange way.

To get it, you had to purchase something Fortnite related in-person. At selected retailers, you’d then get a Fortnite redeem code to unlock the axe1 That was the only way to get it. So, players had to pick up a toy or some other piece of Fortnite merch and hope that particular game shop still had codes.

4. Reaper

The Reaper pickaxe is an old and classic harvesting tool, but it might be overshadowed by a skin. This isn’t part of the Reaper skin, or the cosmetics that match. That’s the John Wick stand in that became so popular. However, it was a Season 1 pickaxe, so it’s one of the rarest Fortnite cosmetics or pickaxes now. The Reaper is a scythe, like the grim Reaper! It’s not the most exciting design, but a classic.

3. Photonic Striker

The next of the best Fortnite pickaxes is the photonic Striker! This one was part of the Fortnite Crew subscription, and it was customizable. It was a pickaxe that came in various shapes and sizes so you could use for different skins. This one had an extra incentive to keep subscribed to Crew, with Legacy styles. It’s not quite as exciting as the customizable Fortnite skins but great for a pickaxe.

2. Axe of Champions

The Axe of Champions is maybe the best Fortnite pickaxes that are linked to Fortnite esports. There’s been a few of these over the years. They’re given out to the winners of the FNCS, so only a handful of players have them at any one time! Maybe the ultimate status symbol in Fortnite.

Once they’re retired though, they become more common. Players can unlock the first Axe of Champions through a pickaxe code and buy the second one. If you see the current FNCS pickaxe in a game though, you know you’re in a rough lobby.

1. Star Wand

Star Wand might be the most famous out of the best Fortnite pickaxes. This one doesn’t have a particularly interesting design, but it was pay to win briefly.

Players discovered in Chapter 1 that this random pickaxe was dealing double damage. Meaning players had the advantage in off-spawn fights. It was patched quickly, but that hasn’t stopped players from using it still. It’s the main choice of sweaty players in Fortnite, even in Chapter 6.
