In partnership with both ZOWIE and Esports Management, DreamHack has announced its designs to host an all-female Counter-Strike tournament entitled “DreamHack Showdown.” The tournament, set to take place from July 5-7 during DreamHack Valencia, will feature Counter-Strike’s finest female teams and a lush $100,000 prize pool.

The Esports Showdown will have eight team slots, two of which will be direct invites into the event.

The tournament will have eight team slots, two of which will be direct invites into the event. The remaining six slots will be filled through a European and North American online qualifier organized by Esports Management, in addition to an offline qualifier for Asia. Headed up by ZOWIE, the Asian Qualifier will take place on a LAN stage in Shanghai from June 20-23 – the grand finalists from this event will both proceed to Valencia.

At the time of the announcement, VP of Global Marketing for Esport-Management, Katherine Amoukhteh, had shared the following statement: “Our focus is on supporting esports at the grassroots level and creating diversity in exports through partnering on industry-changing initiatives like DreamHack Showdown.

“We believe in an esports ecosystem where every gamer can embark on a path to become a competitive gamer in a professional, supportive environment, and DreamHack Showdown is an opportunity to show this on multiple levels: to celebrate women currently in the gaming industry, inspire those who desire to participate, and – through our platform – equip them with the tools to become the next champions.”

All things considered, the show of faith in the growth of female representation at the top level esports from influential companies such as DreamHack and ZOWIE is something that will be great for the overall health of the scene. Welcoming seasoned esports brands such as these and Esports Management into this budding sectors will surely prove a move in the greater interest of women in esports.
