Sigma Unveiled As Next Overwatch Hero

Hotspawn Team

After several teases, internet speculation and leaks, Overwatch has officially unveiled Sigma as the newest hero. Sigma, Hero 31 in Overwatch, is “an eccentric astrophysicist who hopes to unlock the secrets of the universe, unaware that he is being used as a living weapon.”

Sigma has spent his professional career studying gravity – specifically, the idea of harnessing the energy created by a black hole.

Though the trailer itself is not entirely clear of the exact events that happened to him, it appears that there was an accident while performing an experiment that sent him to a hospital.

From his dialogue and overall tone of the video, it seems as though Sigma has been driven to insanity due to his scientific pursuits. It is also very clear that he is part of Talon, as you can clearly see him aligned with Moira, Sombra and Widowmaker in the trailer.

How Will Sigma play in Overwatch?

The trailer showed next to nothing from the in-game perspective of Sigma, just a lingering shot of him standing in point B of Horizon Lunar Colony. So, we have no clear idea of how exactly how he will be used in-game. This is not going to stop people from speculating.

Sigma appears to be a tank from his size and the obvious mechanical suit he is wearing in-game. During the brief look, you can see two orbs similar to Zenyatta’s Orb of Destruction. These orbs do appear to have small black holes contained within them.

One can theorize that his abilities will revolve around an ability to control or warp gravity. There has been speculation that Sigma could be able to generate a black hole on the map. But unlike Zarya’s Graviton Surge, would not trap enemies in it but block or alter the trajectory of enemy fire.
