ROCCAT Kone Aimo Mouse Review

Amanda Zelauskas
Roccat was the first peripheral manufacturer to offer RGB options in a mouse with their original Kone gaming mouse back in 2007. I was offered the chance to review Roccat’s latest Kone Aimo RGB mouse, and you know I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Roccat has been designing gaming peripherals for over a decade and is always impressing the industry with their cost-effective products. Every product on their website is under $200, and will rival some of the best products on the market. In fact, you can read our review on Roccat’s Suora FX mechanical keyboard here!

ROCCAT continues their great track record with the ROCCAT Kone Aimo Mouse. The mouse is easy to get familiar with while still offering enough customizable aspects and great construction to attract more experienced users.

Our Score

The Kone Aimo’s main feature is RGB lighting, and there is a lot of it. In fact, the mouse lights up brighter than my entire Suora FX keyboard. This mouse shines as bright as it performs while boasting up to 12,000 dpi and 1,000 Hz polling rate, all the while weighing less than 5 ounces.

  • RGB options for lighting enthusiasts
  • 6-foot braided cable with management strip
  • Bright LEDs on left and right side, and scroll wheel
  • Interchangeable dpi options up to 12,000

  • Low Learning curve
  • Scroll wheel is heavy and offer restistance versus accidental scroll
  • Braided cable

  • LED bars collect dust easily
  • Heavy

Roccat’s Kone Aimo is thick and curvy, creating a shape that fits comfortably into the base of the user’s palm. There is a groove on the side for a comfortable thumb fit but also works as a neutral resting place to reach three programmable micro buttons. There are two buttons under the scroll wheel to automatically adjust the mouse’s dpi to the user’s desire.

The scroll wheel has a nice clicky feel as it goes around. I do not use a claw hand position when I use my mouse, so the scroll wheel is perfect where it is. Unfortunately for those who position their hand higher on the mouse, the scroll wheel might be a little too low. I personally have smaller hands, so they may play a role in your decision.

Game Quality

I have been using the Kone Aimo for over two months and have played Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Fortnite, Destiny 2, and Overwatch throughout my testing period. I was able to program my own custom micro commands for the three different buttons near the thumb rest. There are two buttons above the thumb rest, and one longer button on the bottom. I was able to react much quicker in Black Ops 4 due to the fact that I had heal, slide and melee each within a twitch’s reach.

Thanks to Roccat’s own switches, each mouse button holds a 50-million-click lifespan. None of the buttons felt sticky, too clicky, or unresponsive. In fact, I trusted the mouse much faster than I normally would as I was slamming the left-click during Overwatch.

Roccat’s Swarm software is extremely easy and straightforward to use. My current set up takes advantage of the software as I use two different Roccat products. Both of my products share the same color shade and interact in a way that makes my set-up look alive.

With the Kone Aimo, you can select different RGB designs to show off your mouse. Some options include wave, snake, breathing, heartbeat, or fully lit. Thanks to Roccat’s Aimo Intelligent Lighting System, certain Roccat products can be programmed to react organically to your behavior without the need for extensive configuration

Sensor Owl-Eye optical sensor; 12,000 dpi
Polling Rate 1,000Hz
Response Time 1ms
Type USB Charge Cable
Cable Length 1.8m

Roccat continues to create products that stand up to their German-engineered standards. I have yet to have a Roccat product fail me, and most of the time I decide to use their products over my more expensive options. Roccat delivers peripherals that are customizable, precise, and are easy on the wallet… the Kone Aimo is no different.
