First Impression of the Audeze Mobius Headphones
From packaging to product, the Audeze Mobius Headphones look like headphones for grown-ups. The Mobius Headphones have a stylish yet simplistic design. The frame is matte black with grey accents. The black headband has the Audeze typeface in grey. The earcups are a black with grey equalizer and Mobius on the left earcup.
Mobius is fairly lightweight and comfortable. The over-ear cups have a replaceable, soft foam cushion with a faux leather cover. The headband has the same memory foam cushion. While some people may prefer a more breathable cover for the earcups, my ears remained cool after hours of gaming and listening to music.
The left earcup contains the power, mute, and 3D buttons as well as the audio and microphone volume dials. Holding the power button for 3 seconds powers the headphones. Once on, double-tapping the power button toggles through Bluetooth, USB, and Audio Jack. While looking straight ahead, press the 3D button once to center your headset for autonomy calibration. Hold the 3D button to turn 3D mode on and toggle through 3D Manual and 3D Auto.
Mobius has separate volume dials for the microphone and the audio. If you’re listening to music press the audio volume wheel, then scroll up or down to skip to the previous song or the next song. Press the microphone wheel then scroll through to toggle through equalizer presets:
- Foot Steps
Audeze Mobius has a detachable mic that is flexible. The very first time I used Mobius while in Discord, my friends asked if I finally got a professional mic. When I listened to a recording of my voice, I sounded incredibly clear, with no background noise at all.
Different Connection Modes
Audeze Mobius has three ways to connect: 3D 8Chan, Bluetooth, and 3.5mm auxiliary. And they all offer insanely good audio quality. Mobius uses 100mm drivers, which are planar magnetic drivers. Planar magnetic drivers use a magnetic field to generate more precise sounds.
Audeze Mobius picks up in-game sounds like nothing I’ve ever experienced. Audeze’s innovative technology takes digital sound beyond surround with 3D audio and Ambisonics support.
While there is ‘some’ loss in audio quality, Mobius still sounds amazing through Bluetooth. The Audeze Mobius page says Bluetooth mode gives more than ten hours of battery life. I was able to get 12 hours of battery life from Mobius.
Though the sound quality is amazing, you can only listen to one source of sound at a time with Bluetooth. If you’re gaming and using Mobius via Bluetooth, you will not be able to communicate through Discord or listen to music.
Though the Mobius Headphones were designed for PC, connect Mobius to your gaming controller or mobile device via a 3.5mm jack.
Note: Planar magnetic drivers have a known issue with crinkling due to air being trapped between your head and the diaphragm. This creates a crinkling sound as your head moves. How do you avoid the crinkling sound with planar magnetic drivers? It’s quite simple. Just put the headphones on slow and steady so air doesn’t get trapped.
The AudezeHQ Software allows for the audio customization of the Mobius and the Penrose Wireless Planar Magnetic Headset. In AudezeHQ, you can perform the same functions as the buttons and volume dials on the ear cup. You can also check your headset’s battery life. Though it has custom audio profiles, the audio isn’t as customizable as I’d like. There are the gaming audio presets you can save to your profile, but that’s about it.
AudezeHQ also has 3D sound localization with integrated head tracking that you can visually see through its 3D model.
The software isn’t really necessary, but it’s kinda cool to play around with. Hopefully, Audeze will be able to include more customization in the future.
The Audeze Mobius did not disappoint. Mobius creates an immersive audio experience that’s beyond pleasurable. After using Mobius for a month and then testing out another headset, I can honestly say, once you go Mobius everything else pales in comparison. If you’re a gamer and an audiophile, you will want the Audeze Mobius Headphones in your life.
