Dota 2 Updated Brings New Frosthaven Game Mode

Gillian Langland

It’s time for everyone’s second favorite event of the year Frostivus Frosthaven! This year Valve combined everyone’s favorite event Frostivus with the release of Rubick’s Arcana. Frosthaven is based on the classic holiday event Frostivus where players queue up with four other players to protect the ancient, and last hope, the original Frostivus tree. Along with this new game mode, there are new presents for players, new tools to achieve victory, and the cutest Gingerbread Baby Roshan to win! Seriously, just play to get this cutie.

Gingerbread Roshan dota 2

The actual Frosthaven event is run with limited heroes and your goal is to defend the towers and ultimately, the Frostivus tree. Each wave that you clear grants you XP and gold so you are able to buy items and level up your hero. Each kill also has the chance of dropping event consumables like the “Throw Snowball” skill or “Summon Snowman” skill that each participant can use during the event OR during regular matches. For those players who have been subscribed as Dota Plus members, you can purchase an event bundle for 1,500 shards. Not a bad price for twenty of each of the four consumable skills you can use during Frosthaven.

It’s both refreshing to see Valve transform our beloved Frostivus event into some new. Fighting to “keep the Spirit of Frostivus alive” is something that resonates with Dota 2 players. It looks like we’ll never get a true Frostivus with our favorite creatures the Greevils but at least we have a Gingerbread Roshan to fight for.
