Twitch Rivals Recap: Road to TwitchCon ft. Fortnite Zero Build – Part 2

The total prize pool for Twitch Rivals: Road to TwitchCon ft. Fortnite Zero Build Part 2 was $50,000, with the winners taking home $7,500 in addition to their tickets to TwitchCon. The runners-up found themselves walking away with $6,000, with a $4,000 prize for those in third. The player with the most eliminations won a bonus of $200.

Unlike Twitch Rivals: Road to TwitchCon ft. Fortnite Zero Build Part 1 which banned tanks, armored battle buses, tents, and ballers, the second Road to TwitchCon event only restricted the players from using tents. However, Fortnite Zero Build meta was recently shaken up to its core with Epic Games bringing back Port-a-Fort from the Vault. The Port-a-Fort, a rare utility item that spawns a large structure, provides much-needed additional protection from enemy fire. Otherwise, the meta remained unchanged, with a slow-paced early game oriented towards loot gathering and positioning.

EMEA

In the first game, players almost immediately demonstrated the value and role of Port-a-Forts, as they raised plenty of forts across the map. Although this may be the most optimal strategy, the team led by Giorgio “POW3R” Calandrelli, with brute force and Boogie Bombs, destroyed the forts and their denizens and shamelessly won the first round.

Team Solary, as expected, didn’t come to Twitch Rivals only to have fun. With this mindset, they focused on early eliminations. In similar shoes was Team POW3R, who proved their inability to miss the acquired target. Although Team Xiunder_ secured the Victory Royale, Team Solary drastically outperformed everyone with 13 stellar eliminations.

In the beginning of the third game, the teams, presumably hyperfocused on the ticket to TwitchCon, were consumed with a bloodthirsty ambition that led them on killing sprees. Although teams led by Cem “Mithrain” Karakoç and NeZaK were in the lead for the majority of the game, Team DonKaaklijn stood tall in chaos and won the round.

Game four brought about careful and strategic gameplay, as many teams disregarded eliminations and focused on surviving for as long as possible. With this in mind, many categorically avoided the center of the map and lingered on the outskirts. The team that effortlessly adopted this strategy led by Derman “MOTOR” Özdemir. With 26 eliminations in a single game, team MOTOR won the game unmatched. 

In game five, Team Katoo, looming the outer edges, pressured the teams and forced them into combat on their terms. However, as players spent all of their resources, the storm drove players into close-range combat. In a final showdown, team MOTOR masterfully eliminated each and every player that stood in their way to win their second match in a row.

As teams stepped into the final game of the day, they once again invested themselves in a methodical and rather contained approach to the game. Carefully positioning themselves and hunting down their victims, the team of Bella “GirlyBella” Huss, as well as Teams POW3R and Solary dominated the map. In the end, Team POW3R stayed strong and took the win.

Even though Team POW3R showcased great skill and vigor, Team MOTOR, which remained consistent throughout the tournament, confidently won the tournament.

NA & LATAM

The first game of the North American Twitch Rivals event showcased once again the significance of loot and utility items, as players surged to Tilted Towers to collect the best possible equipment. Although this may have been an invitation to violence, the early game remained quiet, with many players seeing the late game. For this reason, the late game was an adrenaline-packed adventure with many ongoing fights at once. Overambitious to win the tournament, many teams didn’t give up easily, but Team Aircool clearly showed they should go to TwitchCon with a whopping 26 eliminations and the Victory Royale.

The teams led by Aydan “Aydan” Conrad and HotShotChick entered the second game with a strong performance and high hopes. However, as the storm raged and impatient players swarmed the battlefield with forts, they received the short end of the stick and Team Nawtaw snatched the Victory Royale in front of them.

In game three, we witnessed the importance of timely rotations and exquisite positioning as the teams mercilessly eliminated each other from miles away. In such a volatile match, Team HippieHabitat, with sniper-like aim and monk-like discipline, won the round.

The favorite location in the fourth game was definitely Rave Cave. Packed with loot, Rave Cave attracted a lot of teams that barely made it out alive. The team which won the round with a calm, cool, and collected attitude was Team Ayden, primarily because they had the foresight to avoid the area.

In game five, teams indulged in high-risk and high-reward plays that would help them to rank better in overall standings. Although the teams of HippieHabitat and Marcus “Ranger” Pereira controlled the map in the early game, they were slow with rotation mainly because the storm circles weren’t on their side. Ultimately, Team Ayden secured another win.

Desperate to come back into the game, Team Ranger pushed themselves in an all-out effort to catch up with Team Ayden. Although Team Ranger clearly dominated the match, Team BUILDING took the win in the final round. 

Falling short only two points, Team Ranger finished the tournament in second place with 127 points. Team Aydan managed to keep the San Diego dream alive and hang on to their first place prize.

In the Latin American event, Team p0me consistently outlasted opposing teams and, with that, guaranteed themselves tickets to TwitchCon in October.
