After pushing Gen.G to three games, we chatted with G2 SkewMond to hear his impressions on the series as well as how he has been settling in as the new G2 jungler, and having to face the responsibility that comes with it.

G2 SkewMond: “I’m not that happy with my performance because I believe I can show way more”

G2 SkewMond – A Bittersweet Series

Can you just go through a little bit about the series? Obviously, it was quite unfortunate that you guys weren’t able to get the win, but it felt close. You guys got Game 2 and Game 3 was quite hard fought.

SkewMond: Yeah, I mean, definitely a really tough series. I think game 1 was a pure stomp, and we didn’t really find ways to get out of the pressure that Gen.G was doing to us. I think Game 2 was way more chaotic, but it was going in our favour and we just got the win. It was an insane Labrov performance to win us on that game. And game 3, yeah, it was looking good in the early game, but we took some bad fights, and it just snowballed really hard, to be honest. And playing that draft from behind is not that easy. So yeah, we just lost like this, like really sad. But I’m happy that we showed some good fight in the series and hope that we can beat T1 tomorrow.

In the heated moment, you guys weren’t maintaining the composure or was it just you guys miscommunicated certain things like timings, movements and stuff?

SkewMond: I mean, kind of both in my opinion. I mean, I think to be honest, like in game 1, we were just like, we just didn’t show up. So I don’t even count that game. I think we just got some basically in game 3, yeah, we didn’t really find our good timings to contest vision and look for skirmishes. And yeah, like the fight we took around the river, put us really behind. They got tower, they got three killes and we lost a lot of flashes. And yeah, I think that communication was not the best.

Coming this year as a rookie for G2, you obviously have the pressure of having to match the expectations of being a G2 player. How do you think your first half of the year has been so far and did you learn anything outside of the game as a player?

SkewMond: Yeah, I mean, so far, I mean, I think it’s been pretty decent. Obviously, I’m definitely not that happy with my performances because I do believe that I can show way more, and I know that I’m able to show way more, but I just didn’t really show up on the important moments, such as LEC finals, MSI, or even the EWC. Yeah, I mean, for sure, like we work a lot with many coaches in G2. And on the performance side, obviously, there are a lot of things that I discovered about myself and I just learned a lot of things about my routine and how I actually handle my daily routine with scrims or no scrims.

I’ve been asking all players that I’ve interviewed so far to rank their top five players from the role, so which are your top five junglers?

SkewMond: Top five junglers, I’ll say Canyon first, Tarzan second, Oner third, then… I’m not quite sure, actually it’s it’s a bit hard. I’ll say I’ll say peanut 4th and 5th… I would say 5th probably inspired, I guess.

Can you give a last message to the fans?

SkewMond:  Yeah, I mean, for all the fans who keep supporting us, and I’m not sending a lot of hate, thank you for just being there with us so far, as I’ve had a pretty decent journey. Obviously, we don’t really bring a trophy yet this year was our new roster, but I hope that we’ll be able to show good performances this summer and I hope that you’ll keep cheering for us.
