The Fortnite C6 S2 Meta has gotten weird. The season began with new features that dragged out the old Boss fight, vault raid, get a mythic mechanic. Now, quicker routes to top-level weapons have been introduced. Which means the entire map is swarming with one of a kind overpowered weapon. Access to them, is locked behind completing some grindy lore-focused quests.
As we’re approaching the serious stage of the second FNCS major, looking at the balance of the game it’s easy to see where problems might emerge. With the last update adding in a whole bunch of new exotic weapons, they’ve made the one-of-a-kind weapons dominant in how the game plays. Where you land might be more important than ever in the rest of the season’s Fortnite tournaments.
Drop Spots and One-a-Kind Loot

At the launch of the season, there were some weird factors with the C6 S2 meta for Fortnite. Players had to break a vault, collect a token, then head to a third location to get a mythic weapon. Essentially, the same outcome as the old dropping system, but with added steps meaning the early game got a bit stretched out. And if we’re considering these drop spots for competitive events, the early game rotation and drop spot became much more important. That’s been changed with this major update, but not in a good way.
Players can play through storyline quests in Fortnite to now get access to a back room in the Black Market, where you redeem your mythic token. With this new update, players who have gone through the storyline can now drop at the Night Market itself. A big difference to the Fortnite C6 S2 meta. With a maxed-out Outlaw Keycard, they’ll get the following items off spawn:
- 1 Gold Weapon
- Heals
- Materials
- Utility Item
- Choice of Overpowered Mythic or Exotic
Once you’ve levelled your Outlaw Keycard up enough, this is all waiting for you. In pubs games, that’s along with hireable NPCs in the vault too. Meaning a player with the right Fortnite drop spot could land and instantly get an endgame loadout, only needing to farm up a little bit before they’re ready to go.
That’s one problem. But the C6 S2 meta gets worse when you consider the type of Mythics that are available.
A Return to Ridiculous Mythics and Exotics for Fortnite C6 S2 Meta

Chapter 6 cut down on some of the lopsided POI exclusive Mythics and Medallions compared to previous seasons. The end of Chapter 5 saw the best player in tournaments getting walls hacks and a much more powerful AR. But last season only had two medallions, one of which didn’t have too powerful of an effect. However, that restraint hasn’t continued this season. The Medallions are still lower in number, but the new Exotics has completely upset the balance.
Instead of being mythic versions of weapons in the loot pool, these new items are unique. There’s a Mini Gun. There’s a Sniper that does recon scans. There’s a blink dash effect shotgun. A 200-HP heal item with unlimited stamina. The fastest firing AR with an accelerator effect. Each is one of a kind and very impactful on the Fortnite C6 S2 Meta. And if you complete certain quests, accessible from the start of the game for players.
We’ve already seen the effect of this with players moving around their drop spots. It seems where you land is going to be increasingly important for the coming season.
The Landing Game
A frustrating feature of lopsided loot is that the player who wins off spawns in certain areas, might be able to win the whole game. By winning a particular landing spot, they gain a huge advantage over the rest of the player base.
For the majority of high-level tournaments, players tend to avoid each other off spawn. They know their drop spots ahead of time. There’s always some who move around and try to push teams in their home spot, but largely things are decided early since fighting off spawn means wasted games. No matter how skilled you are at Fortnite, hot drops get a bit random.
In the next FNCS, the spots with access to these loadouts in the very beginning will have a major advantage. They’ll be getting next level items, the only ones in the game, off spawn. While others scrounge for a shotgun and meds. Not exactly a great balance for the Fortnite C6 S2 Meta.
Will All This Make it to the Major?
The big problem with such unbalanced features is they can make some unfair or uninteresting tournaments. We do sometimes get a bit of respite though. When it’s decided that certain items or other features should be removed from the tournament loot pool. However, so far most of this stuff is still in events.
What’s even stranger is tying access to this stuff to progression through storyline quests. It wouldn’t be the first time Epic’s used the minor hint of lore to interfere with tournaments, but this is on a particularly large scale. The Fortnite C6 S2 meta might be the most lopsided since mythic were introduced and players adjusted to the mechanic.

A counter argument to the exotics and one-off weapons being unfair, would be that it’s no secret where they’ll held. The whole lobby is free to drop on the mini gun and try to come out of the night Market holding it if they want to. Players rolling over and letting bigger names take the best weapons is never guaranteed. Taking someone on for a gun can even turn the tide of an event as we saw with Clix’s team pushing the Shogun island mid-way through FNCS Major 1.
It would make for a strange tournament if these locations attract many more players. In any case the C6 S2 meta is going to be very different. It’s fair to say this coming season of competitive Fortnite might be one where players grumble about deaths to a Mythic more often than normal.
