Fortnite Blitz Royale has gotten bigger lately, with extra maps. Meaning we now need Fortnite Blitz map rotation to keep them fresh. Right now, there’s a small handful of maps which get cycled round regularly. Players can jump into different ones at different times.
The main Fortnite Battle Royale doesn’t feature a map rotation. It’s just a new map for each Fortnite season, with the island developing as it goes. Then, the whole maps gets replaced after a year. Only coming back if Fortnite OG makes it all the way around to newer Chapters. But for Reload, and now Blitz Royale, there is a map rotation. A way for players to get different maps regularly.
How does the Fortnite Blitz Royale map rotation work? It’s quick enough to make sure other maps are nearly always in reach.
The Fortnite Blitz map rotation moves through the different map every half hour. So, for half an hour, we get one map. Then another for half an hour. This mode is a bit faster than the others though. Reload’s map rotation means you play one game, then in the next you’ve moved on to the next map. But the Fortnite Blitz Royale map rotation takes a few minutes.
This means the Blitz Map Rotation isn’t quick enough that it’s one game, then the new map. Instead, you’ll play a small handful then move on to another map. There are two maps active in the Blitz map rotation too. Not all of the mini maps the mode has had. These the Blitz Royale maps in the rotation:
So, it’s the Fortnite collab map, followed by the map instead by the current Chapter. The more classic map inspired Blitz Royale Islands are retired at the moment. The most recent addition to the Fortnite Blitz Map rotation was a Chapter 7 inspired map. This brings it in line with Reload and Battle Royale.
It’s a little strange to have each and every mode having identical maps like this. Although, while the POIs are similar each version has its own take on the Chapter 7 theme. The map rotation also means we do still get to play other maps.
Those are the current Blitz Royale rotation maps, but there’s others that the game has had before. Prior to the current system of Fortnite Blitz map rotation, the maps worked differently. The game used these small slices of other maps. Re-arranged, but not really a unique map. It isn’t like Fortnite Reload, which has had unique maps the whole time.
The game moved through themes every week, so it was difficult to have maps around for very long. many of them players likely missed entirely! However, there are plenty of past Blitz Royale maps thanks to this.
These are all of the Bltiz Royale maps:

A Stranger Things themed island. This one is night time and divided between normal POIs and an upside-down creepy area. It’s still in the Fortnite Blitz map rotation, but could go once this collab is out of the rotation.
A map with elements of the Chapter 5 map… but it’s also one taking inspiration from Chapter 7. It uses the Flowberry farm from that Chapter and familiar architecture, with new POI layouts. These elements have been recreated on the current Chapter map too, for some reason. Starfall Island is the C7 Battle Royale-like map for this mode.
A Marvel-inspired Blitz Royale map. This one was built around the Stark Industries POI. It was part of the Marvel event that coincide with the Six-Stack lobby size. A lot of players likely remember this one, gameplay was quite distinct.
A Chapter 4 inspired map. Its central feature was Mega City, but also featured some of the other POIs in a shrunk down form, like the tower from the Citadel.
None of these other maps are active right now, with just two maps in the Fortnite Blitz map rotation. However, they could get turned back on in the future. The gameplay of Blitz changes a lot. Sometimes from week to week.
This could mean we’ll see older maps make a return in the future. Blitz Royale has grown from a limited time mode into something permanent. And we’ve now even got Blitz Royale esports with the Fortnite Mobile Series. This could mean we’ll see more dedication in the maps in the future! The current two are definitely more polished than where we started.
