A new form of Fortnite tournament is here for Chapter 7, the Fortnite Mobile Series. This event has been the topic of speculation ever since the FNCS Global Championship, where it was announced as a major expansion. Now we’ve finally seen it get under way and we’ve gotten a decent look at how mobile Fortnite esports plays in 2025.

Fortnite Mobile Series Launches with $1,000,000 Prize Pool

Fortnite has had mobile tournaments before. In the past, events were run with different lobbies for different platforms. Each getting the same prize pool for some reason. So, PC, Console, and Mobile all got their own events, and each Fortnite region got their own prize pool for each of the three platforms. This meant things were weird on Mobile. It was mainly dominated by iPad Pro players, who got 120 FPS and essentially played on PC, taking all the prize money. The Fortnite Mobile Series is trying to avoid that.

Rather than just putting up prize money for carbon copy tournaments, the Fortnite Mobile Series is trying to figure out what competitive Fortnite looks like on mobile devices. So far, it’s been a bit weird.

Fortnite Mobile Series Brings Competitive to Handhelds

With the launch of the Fortnite Mobile Series, we’ve got a new type of tournament. Rather than just being a Mobile event though, it’s the details of the tournament which are proving the most decisive for its gameplay. This is a Blitz tournament., since that mode and Reload came back. Very fast, very random, and no Builds.

For the most part, this has meant it’s playing like those wonky Zero Build events that used to be ran. Players are grabbing one good piece of loot, then stocking up on Shield bubbles and Shockwaves. Since the storm closes so fast in Blitz, half the final circles are simply players lobbing shockwaves since the storm will kill anyone it hits. It’s not the most skill-based version of the game.

The Fortnite Mobile series has been bizarre so far. But it does seem like this is finally a Fortnite competitive event that’s designed for mobile. Although, having the end games decided by whose shockwave hits at the right angle in that final second is a bit of an anti climax. In a lot of games, a ton of players get launched into the storm in the final circle, and it’s just a matter of RNG in who the storm kills last while they’re being shocked.

It’s probably not going to be rivalling the FNCS anytime soon. But the Fortnite Mobile Series could be the start of a different kind of competitive Fortnite. One where building isn’t the crucial skill.

Fortnite Mobile Series Explained

The Fortnite Mobile Series is a new form of competitive event starting in Chapter 7. It isn’t a tournament played in Battle Royale like normal or even Reload, it’s taking place in Blitz. The fast-paced mode where you get random loot at the end of each storm circle.

The whole tournament series has already gotten started, but it’s a lengthy format. There’s three different stages and it’ll run through to next year.

The first is the open stage. These are monthly open rounds. Anyone can take part. The best performing players get money for their placement, and they make it through to the next round. These Opens will conclude with a Last Chance Qualifier, then the best performing players move forward.

That second round is the Group Stage and Semi-Finals. These are a more limited tournament which will see the top players on the leaderboard go on. It would be good to see an elevation in performance for this round too. The Fortnite Mobile Series has been played a little odd in the Open Stage, but this should be tougher.

Eventually, there’s the finals. These will be happening further into the year. The Fortnite Mobile Series will likely have a major part of that $1,000,000 prize pool just for the finals. We’re still quite far away from seeing it conclude though.

When Are the Opens?

The Fortnite Mobile Series will be played throughout the current Fortnite season. We don’t know exactly when the conclusion will be. However, we have a good idea of when the Opens are taking place. These are the upcoming events for the Fortnite Mobile Series:

January Open

  • Round 1 – January 5th
  • Round 2 – January 6th
  • Round 3 – January 7th
  • Round 4 – January 10th
  • Round 5 – January 11th
  • Qualifier 1 – January 12th
  • Round 6 – January 16th
  • Round 7 – January 17th
  • Round 8 – January 18th
  • Round 9 – January 23rd
  • Round 1- – January 24th
  • Qualifier 2 – January 25th

February Fortnite Mobile Series Opens

  • Round 1 – January 30th
  • Round 2 – January 31st
  • Round 3 – February 1st
  • Round 4 – February 6th
  • Round 5 – February 7th
  • Qualifier 1 – February 8th
  • Round 6 – February 13th
  • Round 7 – February 14th
  • Round 8 – February 15th
  • Round 9 – February 20th
  • Round 10 – February 21st
  • Qualifier 2 – February 22nd

Each of the Qualifiers is a chance to make it to the Finals of the Fortnite Mobile Series. There will be 20 in total, so plenty of opportunities to get involved in the event. The qualifiers won’t have the best Fortnite players in every lobby, but things will get tenser further into the tournament.
