Both game titles were featured at last year’s EWC, although they were separate competitions from the official competitive circuit. This year, EA will be bringing its flagship esports tournaments to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“The ALGS and FC Pro are two of the most competitive and globally recognised circuits in esports,” said Fabian Scheuermann, Chief Games Officer, Esports World Cup Foundation. “Together with EA, we’re opening doors for players at every level – from grassroots to elite – to compete on the world’s biggest stage. We’re looking forward to football and esports clubs coming together at the Esports World Cup through FC Pro, and excited to bring ALGS to Riyadh after the incredible response last year. This is the future of esports as a global sport — and we’re just getting started.”

FC Pro World Championship – Tournament Format

The FC Pro World Championship will take place between August 7 and 10, featuring the top 32 players across the world. Players will first start in a GSL Group Stage where the bottom 16 will be eliminated. Out of those 16, only eight will make it to the single-elimination bracket that will declare the world champion.

The participants have all been locked in as they will feature the top eight from the FC Pro Open, as well as the top players from the following partner leagues:

  • ePremier League
  • eLigue 1
  • eDivisie
  • LaLiga
  • Virtual Bundesliga
  • eSerie A
  • eMLS Cup
  • eLibertadores
  • eBotola
  • eLPF
  • eLiga Portugal
  • eSPL

A total of $1.5 million prize pool will be distributed among the 32 participating players. The 2024 Esports World Cup EA SPORTS FC tournament was won by Portuguese player João “jafonso” Vasconcelos, who recently qualified through this year’s FC Pro Open.

ALGS Midseason Playoffs Esports World Cup – Everything you need to know

The ALGS Midseason Playoffs will instead take place at the start of the Esports World Cup, during Week 1, from July 10 to July 13. For the other game titles at the EWC, here is the full schedule.

It will feature a total of 40 teams, featuring the five teams from the ALGS Open as well as teams from the Pro Leagues across America, EMEA, APAC North, and APAC South. The competition has revamped its tournament format and has doubled the total prize pool to $2 million.

In the first phase, the 40 teams will be split into two groups of 20, competing in a series of 10 games. The top 7 will go directly to the finals while the bottom three will be eliminated. Teams ranked 8th to 17th will go through a Last Chance Qualifier, where the 20 teams will be split once again into two groups of two. The top 6 from each group will advance.

In the finals stage, the 20 teams will compete in a Match Point Format, where the first team to hit 50 points and then secure a first-place finish in one of the following matches will become the winner. The other teams will be ranked by total points awarded in the series.

Last year, the tournament was won by Alliance, which took home the $600,000 prize pool and 1,000 points for the Esports World Cup Club Championship, which features a total of $27 million to be distributed between the top-ranked esports organizations this year.
