Anubis has received some massive changes as part of its return to the Active Duty map pool. Valve has focused on balancing the map in favor of the CTs, making some important adjustments that will have an impact for both casual and competitive players alike.
Come with us to look at and analyze some of the new Anubis changes in the latest CS2 update.

This is the most significant and obvious of the CS2 Anubis changes. The drop from Mid is now located just outside the doors, rather than right in the middle of Mid. Previously, Ts could smoke off this area and use the cover to jump down, and CTs would have to expose themselves to Mid to do the same. It was simply too high-risk for many CT side players, as if you died, you’d lose control of a huge section of the map.
Now, CTs don’t necessarily have to expose themselves to the Ts to make the same jump down. This gives them an avenue to rush Water early in the round, stifling Ts hoping to head to A fast. Of course, there will be counter utility for this, too, but this should raise the skill ceiling of the map.
Another important note is that players can actually boost up from Water into the hole. This can be used not just to jump up there, but also to peek all the way down to the back of Mid. We’ll see some crazy boosts thanks to this CS2 Anubis change.

On the wall between Con/E-Box and B Backsite, Valve has added a small hole that can be used to throw utility through. This is one I’m actually not too sure on – you could already bounce util off the pillar both into Con and to B Backsite, but it required a lot of skill to do so. Still, this could prove to be a little quicker and a lot less exposing, so I’d have to see how it plays out.
Better players than me will figure out the best way to take advantage of this. Perhaps it will be used as part of rapid executes onto the site from Con, but it feels as though it’s not really doing anything you couldn’t already do here.

A Site just got a lot stronger for CTs. The box height near Camera has been raised massively, meaning CTs can now hide behind it as cover. This means it’s an extra angle for Ts to clear when taking the site, and they can’t just trap a player in Heaven for a free plant.
For retakes, this could work both ways. Ts now have a bigger piece of cover to hide behind, but equally, CTs could use it to their advantage when combined with smokes. I love this change – it’s small but impactful, but won’t change how the site plays too much.

In my mind, this Mid adjustment is the smallest of the new CS2 Anubis changes, but one that will probably still have a big impact at higher elos. Some might not even have noticed it happened, but the doors have been flipped around here. This is one change I think could actually favor the Ts, as CTs now have to expose themselves more to play around the doors. It also means CTs will have to find a new popflash into Mid, as the best one previously involved bouncing it off the door to catch the Ts off guard.
If Valve’s aim was to balance the map for the Ts, this is one change I’d have to see in action. In theory, it sounds as if the Ts will get more mileage out of this CS2 Anubis change in the long run.
