The MPL ID S16 Grand Finals delivered an electrifying clash between ONIC Esports and Alter Ego. The reigning champions once again proved their dominance. In front of roaring fans and millions of viewers online, ONIC sealed the championship with a commanding 4–1 win, solidifying their dynasty and earning yet another ticket to the M7 World Championship.
Both teams entered the grand finals with vastly different paths. ONIC came in as the heavy favorite, finishing first in the regular season with a stellar 14–2 record and cruising through the playoffs upper bracket.
Alter Ego, on the other hand, carved their way through the lower bracket om earlier days after a mid performance to the season. Their surprising run, culminating in a dramatic win over EVOS. It set up a much-anticipated showdown with ONIC. Their last grand finals appearance was exactly 5 years ago, during MPL ID S6.
Alter Ego struck first blood by taking Game 1 with aggressive early skirmishes and clean rotations. For a moment, it looked like an upset might be brewing. However, ONIC quickly adjusted their strategy, tightening their map control and drafting comfort picks for key players like Kairi and Kiboy.
From Game 2 onward, ONIC shifted gears heavily by adjusting their approach to Alter Ego’s gameplay. Their coordination around objectives, disciplined rotations, and impeccable team fights overwhelmed Alter Ego. ONIC’s decisive Game 3 win, which lasted just over 11 minutes, put a statement on how their their coordination is world-class. Proving their status as one of the best MLBB teams in history.

Kairi once again proved why he’s considered one of the best junglers in the world. His perfect retri timing, and mechanical finesse earned him the Finals MVP award for the entire series. Backed by ONIC’s flexibility on all of their lanes, ONIC looked unreadable during the draft, giving them a huge advantage for their last picks to counter. Once the engine was rolling, ONIC’s momentum was unstoppable.

ONIC’s 4–1 victory not only extends their MPL Indonesia legacy but also reinforces their reputation as a global powerhouse in Mobile Legends esports. Meanwhile, Alter Ego’s resilience and remarkable lower-bracket journey earned them respect and a coveted slot at the upcoming M7 World Championship. Both will have a shot against the current reigning MSC champions, Team Liquid PH, who also won the 16th season of MPL PH. Once again, ONIC stands tall at the summit as they build their legacy in Indonesian MLBB.
