The new FNCS Star Wand is coming as part of the Champion Crystal set, a new FNCS set where every item features the FNCS design and coloring. The skin came with other items, including the FNCS Star Wand Pickaxe. However, it isn’t in the drops.
These FNCS skins always coincide with major tournaments. Which usually have drops. But they don’t give away the paid set. Instead, it’s a more general set of cosmetics of the FNCS logo in the Major 3 drops. There was a way to get the FNCS Star Wand pickaxe for free though!
Players had to take part in the Champion Crystal Cup. A cosmetic cup held where the top players in each region received the whole set for free. These methods are a lot more difficult than just claiming drops, so only the top players got the wand for free.
Why is the Star Wand So Popular?
Why is a simple pickaxe featuring a Star on a stick so popular in Fortnite? This new FNCS Star Wand is a new variant on a classic pickaxe. One released back in Chapter 1. That pickaxe was the subject of a particularly notorious bug.
One day, after an update, the Star Wand began dealing double damage. At this point it had already been in the item shop and hadn’t shown up again for a while. Meaning not too many players had it. But those who did, were able to win pickaxes fights consistently. Maybe because of the slight advantage, or maybe because the bug as a whole was quite funny, players wanted the pickaxe.
Of course, it was quickly fixed. But it remains a popular pick with Fortnite players. Those who remember the glitch like to run it, and it’s a popular sweat skin pickaxe. Which means it’s a popular pickaxe with sweat wannabes too. Bringing it in for the FNCS Crystal set this time will likely mean a few more sales than the more standard pickaxes.
