What are the best Fortnite controller settings? Mouse and keyboard players might be the most recognizable form of Fortnite pro, but the game has a bigger controller players base. No matter what input method you use, you can make adjustments which will help you improve your performance.

Best Fortnite Controller Settings Explained

More so than a lot of esports games like Valorant or CS:GO, controller players have options in Fortnite. For a long time, there were a good number of pros winning esports tournaments with controllers. While it’s less common now, controllers can still compete thanks to some advantages in-game. It starts with optimizing your Fortnite controller settings though.

Best Fortnite Controller Settings

If you’re looking to improve in Fortnite then getting your settings just perfect can be the difference between 2nd place and a win. Often, it’s graphics settings which are most important since they hit your FPS, but on PC or console there are gameplay changes you can make to your controller settings to improve them:

  • Input Settings
  • Controller Auto-Run – On
  • Build Immediately (Builder Pro) – On
  • Edit Hold Time – Low as you can go and be comfortable
  • Slide Hold time – Similar, somewhere around 0.2 might is good

Sens and Sticks

Sensitivity specifically requires a bit more of a personal touch. This is where the muscle memory you’ve built comes into play. Essentially a lower sensitivity makes it easier to do precise targeting, and a higher makes it easier to turn. It’s about finding a balance.

The big limiter to this on controller is stick length. Players just don’t have that much room to move their sticks. Meaning lower sensitivity can be tricky, which is why things like ramp up speed can help there. The best Fortnite controller settings and sensitivity is a bit of a balancing act.

Going a little lower than standard sensitivity can be very helpful for improving accuracy. If you have a premium controller with longer sticks, then you can go even lower still. But remember to use the input curve settings. These will mean your turn speed will increase as you move the stick for longer and further, to even out the drawback of a lower sens. This section is much more personal preference, but these are some starting points to dial in on the perfect sens for you:

  • ADS Sensitivity – 4
  • Build Mode Sensitivity Multiplier – 2.5x
  • Edit Mode Sensitivity Multiplier – 2.5x
  • Advanced Options – On
  • Look Horizontal/Vertical Speed – 40-50%
  • Turning Horizontal Boost – 0-25%
  • Turning Vertical Boost – 0-25%
  • Turn Boost Ramp Time – 0.4 seconds
  • Instant Boost When Building – Off
  • Look Input Curve – Exponential
  • Aim Assist Strength – 100%

Deadzones – Best Fortnite Controller Settings

One issue that players run into with controllers is deadzones. Sticks degrade. Even higher end controllers don’t seem to be built to last anymore. A deadzone setting will make a section of your stick be ignored by the game. So, the minor movement of a drifting stick doesn’t change gameplay. It also reduces the area you can use to actually control the game though. The best Fortnite teams with controllers probably just get a new one, but deadzones can be a temporary solution.

Since this one depends on the current state of your sticks, there’s no set best Fortnite controller settings for deadones. Instead, it’s best to find it out yourself.

That can be through gradually turning up the deadzone until you no longer move from drift, or checking it manually. If you have a controller you can connect to a PC, plug it in and use controller testing software to see much movement is being registered without you touching the stick. That’s the movement your deadzone setting will need to eliminate.

Those are the best Fortnite controller settings but how far can you go plying with a gamepad?

In the past Fortnite pros have won major tournaments with controllers. Even stayed competitive on an FNCS level with one. Although, controller players are much less numerous in Chapter 6 esports. This is down to a change in Aim Assist.

Controllers have a downside for aiming, mouse and keyboard is just more accurate. However, it does have an advantage with Building. Players build with fewer inputs on controller. Mouse and keyboard aiming might be more beneficial than the building boost, but both are important skills. Fortnite is definitely a game where you can go far playing with a controller.
