How Many CS2 Cases Are There?

CS2 Cases

As seen by the CS2 case list above, there are a total of 42 cases in the game at the moment. However, with Valve still frequently updating the game, you should expect even more CS2 cases to be added in the future.

All Prime CS2 Cases (Active Drop Pool)

99% of CS2 weekly drops you get come from the Active Drop Pool. These are otherwise known as Prime CS2 cases, which rotate on a fairly regular basis as Valve releases new cases in-game. Because Prime CS2 cases enter the game so regularly, they are usually much cheaper than other cases not in the Active Drop Pool.

Case Release Date Chance
Sealed Genesis Terminal September 17th, 2025 39.6%
Kilowatt Case February 7th, 2024 16.34%
Revolution Case February 9th, 2023
14.85%
Recoil Case July 1st, 2022
14.85%
Dreams & Nightmares Case January 20th, 2022
13.37%

The Prime CS2 case drop pool changes almost every time Valve releases a new case – whenever it does, we’ll keep this list up to date here.

All Rare CS2 Cases

Rare CS2 cases can still drop as part of your Weekly Rewards, albeit at a much lower chance. All the rare CS2 cases have the exact same percentage chance of appearing – that is, not much chance at all. If you get one of these Counter-Strike cases from this drop pool, know you’re very, very lucky.

When a container comes out of the Prime CS2 cases drop pool, you’ll usually find that it goes straight to the rare cases list.

All Discontinued CS2 Cases

There are a few discontinued CS2 cases that don’t drop anymore. You won’t find them in your weekly drops as part of the CS2 case drop pool, so the supply that is currently in existence is all there is left. Eventually, these discontinued CS2 cases will become extinct, but that doesn’t seem likely to happen any time soon.

eSports 2013 Winter Case

Ultimately, whether the CS2 case list of discontinued items grows in the future is entirely at Valve’s discretion. It doesn’t feel likely that any more CS2 cases will be discontinued, but Valve has shown it can work in mysterious ways.

Armory CS2 Cases

CS2 Armory Cases

Valve’s addition of the Armory changed CS2 cases for good. Suddenly, the developer added a new way for cases to be added to the game, and this was a little scary. Armory CS2 cases don’t drop as Weekly Drops, like every other case in the game. Instead, they can only be purchased from the Armory using earned Stars. Despite being bought with Stars, players do still need to purchase a key to open these Armory Counter-Strike cases.

Case Release Date Price
Fever Case
March 31st, 2025 2 Stars (Armory)
Gallery Case
October 2nd, 2024 2 Stars (Armory)

Right now, there are only two Armory CS2 cases, but you can be certain that Valve will add even more in the future.

CS2 Sealed Terminals

CS2 Sealed Genesis Terminal Mechanics

In late 2025, Valve added Sealed Terminals to CS2, in what proved to be a controversial update. Only time will tell, but these Sealed Terminals could prove to be the future of Counter-Strike cases. Players can open Sealed Terminals for free, and can re-roll their drop five times. For each item, they will be presented with an offer, at which point they can either accept (and pay Valve the fee for the skin) or re-roll for another offer. If all the offers run out, then the CS2 Sealed Terminal is destroyed.

This is controversial as Valve sets the price and pockets the entire fee for the skin. It’s a fundamental change in how CS cases work, so we’ll just have to wait and see if the developer keeps them around long-term. For now, the Sealed Genesis Terminal is the only one in CS2.
