CS2 SMGs are the guns you turn to on a budget. When you can’t quite afford one of Counter-Strike’s big-ticket rifles, it’s the SMGs like the MP9 and MAC-10 you turn to next. There are seven to choose from in total, and they all have their own pros and cons.
So, from all the CS2 SMGs, which ones are the best? We’ve ranked them from worst to best, so you know which submachine guns you should be turning to when in a tough spot.
The PP-Bizon sits, for my money, as comfortably the worst of the CS2 SMGs ranked. It’s not exactly a bargain at $1,400, and does a truly tragic 16 damage to armored opponents in the chest. Basically, if they’ve bought body armor, good luck killing your opponents with this one.
The MP5-SD actually shares some of the negative traits of the PP-Bizon. Damage-wise, it doesn’t have a whole lot to offer against armored opponents, and it’s even more expensive at $1,500. But what keeps the MP5-SD off the bottom spot in the CS2 SMGs ranking is the integrated silencer. It’s just a slight edge that could be a difference-maker on the CT side.
The UMP-45 has very high base damage, which is one point in its favor. But a fairly slow rate of fire and a very low magazine capacity mean that every bullet matters with this Counter-Strike SMG. You’ll probably struggle at range with this one, too.
Of all the CS2 SMGs, the MP7 might be the most “multipurpose” option. It can be a lethal tool at both close and long range, with a fast rate of fire making up for moderate damage. It’s highly accurate in bursts and taps, so you can really get away with using the MP7 in a variety of scenarios.
The P90 is a specialist tool. For those moments when you just want to hold the W key and rush at your opponents, the P90 is the luxury choice, featuring an absurd rate of fire, high mobility, and the highest armor penetration of all the CS2 SMGs. Its premium price tag of $2,350 puts it more in line with a rifle, but you get what you pay for.
Prior to the recent MP9 nerf, it would be nearly impossible to deny that this was the best CS2 SMG overall. For a while, it single-handedly kept the CT side relevant in the meta, offering rifle-like results for a bargain $1,250. It was competitive in every category you can think of, and only recent changes to its accuracy have demoted it to the second spot among the CS2 SMGs ranking.
Available only on the T-side, the MAC-10 is the King of the CS2 SMGs. At just $1,050, it’s barely cheaper than a pistol, and is an unrivaled champion when it comes to winning half-buy rounds. Like the P90, hold W and shoot is the strategy here. The high accuracy and solid damage will do most of the work for you.
