CS2 Prop Hunt is here, albeit not in an official capacity. A new mod released by Angel has brought the classic Garry’s Mod game mode to Counter-Strike 2, and Prop Hunt is just as fun as ever. Here’s how you can get your friends together to play Prop Hunt in CS2 right now!
Prop Hunt is a hide-and-seek gamemode that initially started in Garry’s Mod. The rules are simple. Hiders get 30 seconds to hide as in-game props, tucking themselves around the map and trying to look as natural as possible. It’s a great way to test your muscle memory of all the CS2 maps, that’s for sure. Seekers then have five minutes to find and kill all the players disguised as props, and must destroy all of them to win the round. Props can still move around the map mid-round, so it’s not necessarily game over if you’re caught!

At the start of every round, prop players are assigned a random item in CS2 Prop Hunt, and can re-roll up to three times using the !r or !reroll commands. In the interest of fairness, props are forced to change in the middle of every round, and must make an audible taunt every minute. Hilariously, these taunts have been provided by Jacky, so you might recognize the voice here. These taunts just give the seekers a chance in any particularly tough round.
Dead props become seekers, who then must help find the remaining props until the end of the round. All seekers spawn with a wallhack grenade, which highlights any prop players in the vicinity when it goes off. Props do get flashbangs, allowing them to make an effective escape when caught.

If you’ve ever played Prop Hunt in Call of Duty or Garry’s Mod, then you know what to expect here. It’s the classic formula, just in Counter-Strike, opening up a world of new opportunities going forward.
To actually play, you need to head to the CS2 Prop Hunt Steam Workshop page and press the Subscribe button. This will download the game mode. After this, launch the game and under the “Play” tab, head to “Workshop Maps.” Now, it’s just a case of finding the Prophunt Inferno map and playing it!
Of course, you’ll need to invite some friends. Unfortunately, you can’t play CS2 Prop Hunt with bots at the moment, so get your friends together and invite them into the game. No need to play with any custom settings – just launch the server and you’re good to go. I would recommend activating sv_cheats and using the thirdperson CS2 console command when playing as a prop, but it’s totally up to you. The first-person mode is a little janky, but I’m sure that will be fixed long-term. For now, thirdperson is the way to go.

Hopefully, we will see more maps added to CS2 Prop Hunt in the future, as well as some community servers hosting the game mode to make it easier to play with strangers. But for now, the version we have featuring Inferno is still great fun.
