Florescent Makes Her Debut in EMEA by Topping the Scoreboard

An uphill battle for APEKS and Florescent

We’re only on day 2 of the VCT EMEA schedule and coming in as an unproven team from ascension, we were expecting a bit of a rocky start for Apeks. Thankfully for fans, it wasn’t an impossible draw for the team. Gentle Mates (M8) as an opening seed were also looking at a roster shuffle in the off season with a new look, looking to prove themselves, as the org had also fought their way up from Ascension.

But that’s where the arguably good fortune ends. Their recently signed 5th player, batujnax was unable to join them for the opening match. This left Strategic Coach oderus to pick up the mantle, dust off the mouse and take to the server himself. He had some major highlight moments, but it definitely justified some very understandable questions about the team’s expected performance.

The stats don’t lie

GC’s goat had the same sort of performance the smurf’s complaining in your ranked games tell you they’re having. Finishing out the 13-7 loss, Flor dropped 20, beating out the next best on her team (AvovA) by 8. And tying fellow Jett Clickk, who also had a fantastic first map.

Map 2, Gentle Mates got off to a fantastic start once again, however, by round 18 the scorelines started to even out. First to 10 were Gentle Mates, making good on their sizeable lead at the half. However, Apeks’s map pick was Haven for a reason; the attack side looked drilled and dominant work from Flor and surprisingly coach Oderus kept them level going into 20.

The pressure was on going into the late maps. The M8s, with eyes on the prize fumbled what should have been a 13-10, but some heroics from oderus and the team pulled off some heroics to take them into a very short OT.

No Upsets today

The final score finished on a 2-0 and the final round ended somewhat poetically, with Flor against the world in 2v1 clutch. Today would not be her day for a win, but her performance will absolutely be putting to bed any doubts on her place in VCT. The very first player to graduate from GC to VCT is here to stay and one to watch here in EMEA.
