Rainbow Six Siege X crashes can happen in a number of ways, from startup issues to driver problems, or simply just a bad game update not liking your PC. These problems are often fixable with a bit of effort from the user. These can happen on PC and console, though Rainbow Six Siege X crashing is much easier to fix on PC.

How to fix Rainbow Six Siege X Crashes

In this guide, we’ll take a look at a number of things you can do to fix the issues you might be facing, from the quick to the more advanced.

Rainbow Six Siege X Crashes – Quick Fixes

There are a number of simple fixes we can look at before doing anything major. These are mostly updating drivers, changing some settings or just making sure everything downloaded correctly. That could be a particular issue around the new Rainbow Six Siege X seasons releasing.

Here are a few of the easy fixes we can look at first:

  • Update Drivers: Regardless of whether you are on Nvidia or AMD, check if you have the latest drivers for the game. New patches for Siege X are often designed with the latest software in mind
    • It’s also worth checking the latest driver notes to see if your GPU brand has listed Siege X under “known issues.” Sometimes rolling back one version helps more than updating.
  • Verify Steam Files: On Steam, verify your game files. This helps to force Steam to redownload any problematic game files. If you use Ubisoft Connect, use their built-in file verification tool.

  • Background programs and overlays: Some software, like Discord, Xbox Game Bar, and even Steam’s own overlay, can cause issues with games. Look to turn these off if you have them enabled. Make sure GPU overlays (Nvidia GeForce Experience, AMD Radeon Software) are also off
  • Compatibility Mode: Run the game in this mode, right-click the game launcher and launch it in that mode, which can help. You can also try disabling fullscreen optimisations, which has helped some Windows 11 users with sudden desktop crashes
  • Run as an Admin: You can run Steam/Ubisoft Connect as an administrator and then launch the game manually the same way. This is rarely the issue, but it can force the game to bypass any strange Windows settings. It could be behind Rainbow Six Siege X crashing, but it’s unlikely.
  • Check system requirements: If you have not played the game before, or it’s been a while, make sure you meet the Siege requirements. You can see the full list on the Ubisoft website. But for 1080p you need:
    • AMD Ryzen 3 3100 or Intel Core i3-8100
    •  RX 5500 XT or Intel Arc A380 or GTX 1650
    • 8GB RAM

If you are using older hardware, also make sure that your settings are not too high. Things like Shadows, RTX, or the game is on too high a resolution for your GPU to handle.

Rainbow Six Siege X Crashes Advanced Fixes

If the above don’t work, let’s take a look at a few more advanced fixes we can do.

  • Limit FPS: Capping your frame rate to your monitor’s refresh rate (60, 75, 144, etc) has been known to fix the issue for some players
  • Reinstall anti-cheat software: go into your software and uninstall BattlEye anti-cheat. Once you reopen Rainbow Six Siege X, it will force it to install again. This is sometimes a good thing to do after major Seasonal patches, if you want to keep climbing the ranks in R6.
  • Change the DirectX version: Launch the game using a different  version of DirectX, usually from 11 to 12 and vice versa
  • Reset game settings: Delete the game’s settings file, usually found in the “My Games” section
  • Delete local files: For Steam, head to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\<UbisoftConnectID>\1843″ and delete the original save folder. Make sure to deactivate cloud save syncing on the first launch.
  • Check Windows Updates: While not advanced in terms of difficulty, we’ve put it here because, for Windows 11, especially, recent updates have made things worse, not better.
  • RGB Software: A strange issue is that Siege X has known issues with RGB software. If your PC has things like iCUE, SignalRGB etc, look to disable this and try the game again.

Rainbow Six Siege X Crashes Console Fixes

The issue on the console has fewer options to fix, but there are things we can do. If you are on PlayStation or Xbox, the crashes are likely caused by corrupted save files or an issue with the game’s installation. Either reinstall the game, which can fix some issues. The other cause is that your console simply has no extra space, so make sure you have enough spare room. 5GB should be an ok amount.

If the game keeps crashing after a reinstall, rebuild your console database (PlayStation) or clear the persistent cache (Xbox). These options fix corrupted system data without touching your games.

If nothing above helps, then you may need to check out the Siege X Twitter (X) account to see if the game is having issues or look at the community Reddit pages to track any problems that have come from the recent patch.
