With Nowee “Ryota” Macasa’s arrival to the team, ONIC has finally bagged their first win of the season, starting ONIC’s journey towards the playoffs. ONIC Esports has been in a slump for the first two Weeks since the start of MPL Indonesia Season 15, changing their roster every match to find the best lineup.
During the peak of ONIC, their lineup consisted of all 4 current players, Kairi, CW, SANZ, and Kiboy and their former EXP Laner Butsss. This lineup of ONIC won 4 seasons of MPL Indonesia consecutively, specifically Season 10 to 13. Butsss became a substitute during Season 13 with Lutpiii starting in their main five. But they failed to qualify for playoffs during MSC 2024 in Riyadh, a first for Indonesian teams in the history of MLBB. They are in need of searching the perfect EXP Laner to replace Butsss’ legacy.
During their game today, ONIC showed promise with their newly acquired import, Ryota, despite him not knowing Bahasa for faster communications in his first match. Dewa United Esports had an amazing start, beating Bigetron Esports and the new team in the league, Natus Vincere, to start their week right. ONIC really had it coming for them with Dewa United Esports in good shape for their match.
ONIC displayed their old form that earned them the title of some of the best MLBB players as they snowballed the entire first game, playing cleanly to defeat Dewa United Esports. Ryota fits like a glove to the current rosters’ synergy, knowing his role as Hilda for his first game in Indonesia. Him going around focusing the correct targets helped ONIC breathe in the game, unlike their previous games. With the first game win, Ryota was set for success for the next game to come.
Coach Adi of ONIC saw that Ryota’s Hilda was one of their keys to success during game 1 so he picked it again for this game. Additionally, Kairi was given his signature pick, Ling, but Dewa United Esports had a plan this time and targeted the new EXP Laner, completely shutting down the function of his 2nd game of Hilda.. This led to ONIC not finding any openings and compressed their map area after Dewa’s advances to them. The game eventually ended with ONIC not being able to do anything, giving us another nail-biting game 3 for ONIC fans.
Game 3 was much closer having the teams trade leads every team fight they had. In the end, ONIC’s lineup was better in terms of scaling, having a Cecilion for SANZ, as well as giving Ryota the hero Gloo, countering most of their cores’ damage dealing abilities. ONIC eventually got their rhythm and ended the game, giving them their first series win in the tournament.
ONIC has yet to try their lineup used for Snapdragon Pro Series Season 6, when they beat Team Liquid ID and Team Falcons respectively. They may be trying out with their main roster with CW or in the experimental phase, similar to previous seasons, before they show their full potential.
ONIC is set to face Bigetron Esports tomorrow at 6:30 PM GMT+8, another powerhouse in MPL ID S15, and Team Liquid ID, one of their current rivals, next week. Their current standing is 1-3, almost similar to their brothers in the Philippines with their start. We may be able to see how they will bounce back to the top with the current state they are in after winning today.
