With Hanzo getting his long-awaited hero revamp, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) fans are excited to see him in pro play as his global ban has been lifted upon the first week of MPL Philippines Season 15 (MPL PH). Let’s take a look at his recent performance and if he’s playable in the meta.
Before we see his pro play debut by the best MLBB players in thr world, let’s take a look at his revamped skills. Hanzo still has 2 forms – Hanzo and Hanekage (Ultimate), where he gets 2 sets of skills with different functions.
Damage dealt by Hanzo’s Basic Attacks and skills inflicts a stack of Dark Ninjutsu on the target, up to 5 stacks. Ninjutsu: Demon Feast can only be cast on targets with full stacks of Dark Ninjutsu.
The skill can only be used on targets with max stacks of Dark Ninjutsu. If the target is a Common Creep, Hanzo will immediately devour it and digest it over a period of time to recover HP.
Deals Physical Damage to heroes and True Damage to the Turtle and the Lord.
Hanzo dashes in the target direction, leaving a Dark Mist in his path, dealing Physical Damage to enemies in the area and slowing them. The Dark Mist provides Hanzo with a Movement Speed boost.
Hanekage returns to Hanzo’s body and exits the Hanekage form.
Hanekage dashes to an enemy hero, dealing damage after a brief delay. Each stack of Dark Ninjutsu on the target increases this damage. When the target has max stacks of Dark Ninjutsu, an additional high amount of damage is dealt and Hanzo recovers HP.
Hanekage dashes in the target direction, knocking enemies in his path airborne and leaving a Dark Mist that deals Physical Damage to enemies in the area and slows them.
Hanzo leaves his body behind and is invincible during this period. He charges into battle as Hanekage with enhanced skills, consuming energy every second but can be reduced with Purple Buff. When nearby units die, Hanekage gains energy. When energy is depleted, Hanzo’s body will gradually be pulled toward Hanekage’s current position – it’s worth remembering as well that Hanzo and Hanekage share the same HP.
When casting this skill again or when Hanekage is killed, Hanekage will quickly return to Hanzo’s body (becoming untargetable and recovering a small amount of HP during the process). If Hanekage is killed, Hanzo will suffer a 50% Movement Sped reduction and have his position revealed for 6s.

We immediately got to see him debut after two weeks in MPL PH S15 as well as a week in MPL Indonesia S15. In fact, he was even played during game 2 of the first match of MPL PH S15 by Twisted Minds’ Jungler, MP The King.
Hanzo’s MPL PH performance in the span of two weeks was underwhelming since he was only picked twice by Twisted Minds alone and only 4 bans over 33 total games currently. That means he only has 18% contention rate, probably putting him as a pocket pick for teams.
Going to MPL ID, Hanzo did a little bit better for his first week with a win and a loss. RRQ’s Hazle used Hanzo in the match against ONIC, on game 2 and won. AE Rinee also picked Hanzo against ONIC, on game 2, the following day but lost with ONIC having an amazing comeback.
Both Hanzo performances were incredible and ONIC couldn’t match against it’s early game speed and clear. Hanzo was also banned 3 times by 3 different teams and still only during the second phase. This is further proofing that despite being different regions and having different playstyles, they see the hero as the same function on when they should draft him.
All in all, Hanzo is deemed playable as second to the meta, giving a team an edge on whether it is a strat pick or a surprise pick. We still have a lot more matches to come before the Mid Season Cup 2025 in Riyadh and other regions have yet to begin their own tournaments. Surely other regions’ junglers would try him out due to the top two regions giving him a consideration of picking in their respective regular seasons.
