It was a tough end to VKS’ journey at Worlds. Even though the team lost to BiliBili Gaming 2-0, the LTA squad was still able to show their worth with a close game 2, ended by the enemy team with a backdoor. Shortly after the end of the match, we spoke with VKS Mireu to hear his impressions on the match, what he thinks of the team’s Worlds run, and how he got to meet Faker.

Davide: First of all, it’s unfortunate that you weren’t able to take the win.

How did you guys approach this series and then what were the main elements you were looking to tackle on for the preparation?

Mireu: Honestly, we didn’t have a specific plan because our opponent is such a strong team, so we had one thing in mind: whenever we run into them, just open a fight and take every fight possible and don’t be scared.

Davide: Next question is a little bit about the first game. It looked like you guys had a good early game, but it then slowly fell out of your control.

What did you guys discuss in the match between game 1 and game 2?

Mireu: So there were times when some of us died when we were not supposed to. Also, we didn’t wait for each other, so I told them we should kind of chill out. You know, we’re too overhyped.

Davide: Even though the result didn’t go the way you guys wanted,

Do you think you’re still satisfied with how the team has performed throughout the world so far, like throughout the worlds, considering all the challenges you had guys had to face coming into the tournament?

I know that you had troubles with obviously the traveling, but also finding scrims and stuff like that.

Mireu: About scrims, our coaching [staff] have worked so hard, so we were able to get every scrim block possible. And, you know, about the long travel time, it can happen. It is what it is, so we didn’t really think too much about it.

I’m definitely not completely satisfied with the result. I wish we could have picked up one more victory, but one of my goals was playing up against one of the best mid laners in the world. I got to play Knight today because I wanted to assess myself as a mid laner. I was able to face him today and I have no regrets.

Davide: I also had a question about this.

Was there any player, aside from Knight, who you obviously faced today, that you really wanted to face at Worlds that you didn’t get to play against?

Mireu: Personally, I thought Knight and Chovy are the two best mid laners  currently at the tournament. So I wished I could get either one of them at least. And I got to play Knight today, but I didn’t get to meet Chovy.

Davide: I wanted to ask about Faker because I know you got to meet him the other day.

How was it like to meet the GOAT? And if you want to share a little bit how you felt at the time.

Mireu: I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say this, but I was in scrims with G2, and then I asked for a photo with Caps and he said okay. I was on my way to meet Caps for the photo shoot together, and then I felt like some sort of aura behind. I was like ‘who’s that?’ and there was Faker, so I also asked for the photo.

Davide: Perfect. I’m happy that you were able to meet him in the end. Heading into the next season, I know that you have a contract expiring at the end of the season with VKS.

As you look ahead, what are you feeling about your future? Both personally, but also with the rest of the team.

Mireu: My personal goal is participating in either one of the MSI, EWC (Esports World Cup) or Worlds. So I think I’m in the process of reaching there, and I think my team has a similar goal as well.

Davide: As someone who has played Worlds on multiple occasions already and also played across different regions, including the Korean leagues, the ERLs in Europe, and now the LTA.

What kind of were the difference that you noticed between the different regional leagues?

Mireu: Of course, you know, there could be some difference in the level of performance or strength, but I didn’t really think it was that big. I think the biggest difference I was able to tell was the food.

Davide: Which one was better though?

Mireu: Best region [was] Turkey, but I’m not gonna say which place has the worst food.

Aside from meeting Faker, obviously, is there any other particular moment at Worlds that you have gone through and that you would like to share with us?

Mireu: So in our practice room, I was always nagging to our head coach, please book a scrim with Gen.G. We never got a chance in the end, but still, I was like nagging all day and then I got outside the room and I just ran into Chovy, so I was able to get a photo [with him].

Any last message to the fans to round off the interview?

Mireu: Although we were not able to showcase the best performance, I am pretty sure all the fans know that we worked so hard to reach the point where we are at this moment. And I will personally would like to keep on working hard in order to become a better player. Thank you for your support.

Davide: Thank you a lot. Mireu. Good luck with the rest and hopefully maybe you’ll get to play against Gen.G next time. Who knows, next occasion.
