Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle is officially parting ways with G2 Esports as announced by the organization this Tuesday on X.

Official: Mikyx says farewell to G2

It was already an open secret. After a back-to-back failure at the most prestigious international event, where the Samurai never achieved to even reach playoffs, there was no choice but to change the dynamic within the team for next year.

While Mikyx is still for sure one of the best if not the best support in the league, he might have paid the ultimate price for his performance since he was far from being one of the best players at Worlds and has not been up to his usual standards – he was the support with the most average deaths per game from the Main stage (5.63), the fourth worst kill presence % (0.70) as well as the second worst KDA (1.78).

This departure marks the end of a long romance between the Slovenian support and the Samurai, which lasted 5 years in total – from 2019 to 2024 with a short break when Mikyx moved to Excel for a year, in 2022. This also means Steven “Hans Sama” Liv – who will most likely stay in the team next year – will have to find a new partner to rule the league in the botlane.

Big shoes to fill

Even though 2024 wasn’t his best year overall, especially with a rather unconvincing Spring Split, Mikyx must be granted respect for his time being with G2. Not farther than last year, he was elected MVP of the LEC.

Whoever ends up replacing him must be ready to go further than Europe ever did, in order to fill the gigantic shoes of G2’s former support. To reach Mikyx’s greatest heights (in 2019), his counter part will at least have to win every split, lift the trophy at MSI, and reach the Worlds’ final all in the same year. Easy, isn’t it? No doubt the best European support of all-time will find a new home within the LEC next year, and in a competitive roster.

Ethan is an esports fanatic — not a Fnatic fan, don’t get him wrong. He previously worked for a French media outlet called Eclypsia, as well as Sheep Esports, for whom he covered a variety of scenes: from FC 24, R6, and RL to CS:GO, VAL, and more. But the main reason Ethan started writing in esports was to have the opportunity to work fully on his one true love: League of Legends. And that’s precisely what he is doing at Hotspawn. Be warned, his articles can sometimes ooze a little too much of his lack of objectivity towards the French scene and players…
