G2 Esports have once again shown they are the best team in the LEC by punching out the qualification to Worlds 2025 after their series against Karmine Corp in the LEC Season Finals. This marks their fourth consecutive appearance, and their ninth Worlds ticket since the team joined the LEC back in 2016.
The Samurai took down one of their biggest rivals in their qualification pathway and they did it convincingly. Despite dropping down in the first game of the best-of-five series, G2 Esports quickly recovered and took three games straight. The main highlight of the match was G2’s ability to play around the teamfights and shut down KC’s biggest threat, top laner Canna.
The Korean player, despite his best attempt at carrying the team, often found himself unable to stop the enemy’s momentum, often relying on SkewMond’s ability to get the upper hand and dictate the pace of the game. This became clear in the fourth decisive game, when G2’s jungler picked Volibear and completely stopped Canna from getting any major leads on his pocket pick Jayce.

G2 comes from a season full of ups and downs. Always at the top of the league over the past few years, the team had struggled to maintain the same results in the first half of the year when it had brought in SkewMond and Labrov. While it was clear that the player’s individual power was there, G2 often lacked in finding synergy and the correct meta reads.
This became even more evident at MSI, when G2 was one of the first teams to be eliminated in playoffs. At the time, the team looked lost and even some of the players, BrokenBlade above all, looked in poro form. The 3-0 loss to FlyQuest became the wake-up call for the European team, which then bounced back at the Esports World Cup when they were able to take down BiliBili Gaming and finish in the top four at the tournament.
Since then, G2 seemed to have recovered. The team swept their group in the LEC summer split and the players seem to be clicking a lot more, with SkewMond and Caps carrying the team from the start of the games. It took some time, but G2 are now back to the top of Europe and with other teams looking more shaky, their chances of winning the LEC title this year are going up.

For KC, it’s time to get back to the drawing board. The team has seemingly been unable to grow as much as their opponents and some of the issues from the start of the season still persist. Canna is often being targeted in draft and the game but the team is not able to find edges elsewhere on the map, creating less than ideal teamfight scenarios for the Blue Wall.
KC will now move to the lower bracket, facing French rivals Team Vitality this coming Sunday. G2, on the other hand, will be waiting for their upper bracket opponents between MKOI and FNC, who will play later today. Regardless of who advances, the LEC is bound to have some explosive matchups next week.
