In a surprising turn of events, Chinese LPL team EDward Gaming took down SK Telecom T1 in the final in a close 3-2, becoming the first-ever MSI champions.
2016 – SKT’s era of domination
Despite a shaky start to the tournament, it was still SKT T1 who won MSI 2016, kicking off the international streak after winning Worlds the year before. The Korean team swept Counter Logic Gaming with a quick 3-0.

2017 – SKT holds the crown
SK Telecom T1 won back-to-back MSI titles, defeating G2 Esports 3–1, showing why they were considered the most dominant team in LoL history.

After a dominant first part of the season which saw them go undefeated in the LCK, Gen.G took home the MSI title once again in Vancouver, Canada, taking down T1 in the grand final.
