What’s wrong with Fortnite? Attempting to jump in with the last update is leaving a lot of fans confused. Fortnite downtime went on for a lot longer than anyone expected. With the Fortnite servers down, the game was completely inaccessible. Stretching on for way longer than our normal update time and nobody seems to quite know what exactly is going on. Now the Fortnite servers are back up!
Since the most recent Fortnite update, we’ve had downtime for hours and hours longer than we should have. But they’re now back online.
Pretty recently, Epic’s got the servers back up and running. Players should be able to log back in. If you’re still experiencing server issues, it’s probably due to a lot of players logging in at once. Just like when a season launches, having downtime end during peak times usually means a lot of players try to get in at once. Which can mean queues or server problems. With the Fortnite downtime over though, we should be able to log back in now.
It seems Epic ran into problems coming out of the Summer break. The first Fortnite update went up smoothly enough, unlocking the Superman transformation and vaulting a few items that were broken over the two weeks off. However, with the update since there’s bigger problems. Instead of being stuck with an older version of the game like we normally get during server problems, Fortnite is offline entirely. It was down for way longer than normal, with just a loading screen online.

Any attempts to log in just gives you a server error. It’s why a lot of fans are wondering what is wrong with Fortnite. Typically, downtime for patches happens over night when few players are online. Most players don’t even notice that down time even happens for the game. Since the update ran into problems while offline though, we’re stuck waiting through longer Fortnite downtime. What exactly happened before the servers came back up?
The problem with Fortnite right now is an update gone wrong. Since the problem occurred between updates, there was an extended period of downtime until Epic fixed it. What exactly went wrong with the update is still unknown. This is all we’ve had from Epic’s official communication on their server problems:
We got the initial confirmation of Fortnite downtime. About the same as we get for any Fortnite update! Nothing out of the ordinary. It was the next update to things that showed there were some big problems. Hours later downtime was supposed to end, we got an update that downtime was being extended. This was due to an issue with the update. That was it until we finally got the game back online! Epic announced the game’s servers had returned, without much word of explanation.
Updates can run into problems. In the past, we’ve seen season launches delayed by an entire day. So one update delaying half a day isn’t the worst downtime we’ve ever had. With the Fortnite servers now back up, things should be going smoother! Hopefully, the problem is solved and we won’t see the game back down very soon.
