The new Fortnite season features tons of cool new skins, from Wookie Team Leader, to the Emperor. One Star Wars character has taken a little longer to arrive though, General Grievous in Fortnite. The many armed cyborg was supposed to be available a little earlier, but with the last patch he’s now in the game properly! Despite the current season being just a few weeks long though, he’s tied to Battle Pass progression and it might be difficult to get everything in time.
What exactly is happening? The process for how to get General Grievous in Fortnite has been extended. Since this is the bonus skin for the season, it’s a time limited unlock. Plus, it got delayed by days because of the current problems with the release of Fortnite iOS, for some reason. What exactly is going on and why is a skin waiting for a mobile release?
Now that the update has finally arrived, how can you actually unlock Grievous? The method has changed a little over the years. Most recently, it’s been tied to levels. You’ll need to gain a certain number of levels to unlock each reward. However, we’ve also had Bonus Skins before where players need to complete a certain amount out of special quests to unlock the items. This time, it is back to earning levels though.
The quest method would be a little easier in this mini season, since players likely won’t be levelling as much as normal. However, instead we have a full 28 levels to play through. To unlock everything, you’ll need to grind quite a bit. You don’t get the normal months to do it, this time it’s going to be necessary to finish it in a couple of weeks.
Some players are already annoyed about the timjng since they use Fortnite Crew Pass. The pass cuts off your access to the Premium Battle Pass at a certain point, if you were banking on completing Grievous Day 1, you might not receive the skin anymore after the update. The level requirements are still being kept pretty high though.

Once you get General Grievous in Fortnite, a few of the items might be a little weird. There’s the general skin that we’ve seen before, he’s already been in the game as an NPC for a little while. However, there’s a whole loadout and a weird second skin too. It’s bad news if you’re still hoping for lightsaber pickaxes to show up in Fortnite news for Grievous though. Those are still missing.
These are all of the General Grievous Fortnite items this season and the thresholds to earn them in the Battle Pass:
Most of these are pretty close to how Grievous appeared in the films. Warlord Grievous is a bit different. This is based on the character’s backstory. While Grievous has had multiple backstories in different expanded universe works, this depicts one of them, General Grievous before he was entirely transformed.

The General Grievous Fortnite skin was supposed to be this season’s Bonus Skin. Originally a secret, there now just an extra couple of Battle Pass pages that drop part way through the season. Usually with a set mid-season update. General Grievous was supposed to unlock on Thursday May 15th. But the update got delayed.
Despite the season being just over a few weeks long, General Grievous was pushed back by a day. Then, the next day it’s release on Friday got called into question. While the update did eventually arrive, it hasn’t on mobile. The iOS version of the game is being held back since approval in the NA server region is still lagging.
Since Apple is supposed to be allowing Fortnite back on the app store, Epic held back this week’s update until the app got approved. When an app is submitted, Apple has to approve it for sale, which is usually done in a few hours. Fortnite has now been held up for days.
The delay to get General Grievous in Fortnite because of the wider mobile release. It’s a shame that this has cut down on the already short time players had to gain the levels to unlock the skin.
