Fortnite seasons aren’t just dividers for the ranked mode and esports. Each has a key Fortnite season theme which tells us what that period is supposed to be about. The Fortnite season themes show just how wide the game has been over the years. Although, with a clear trend towards more and more Fortnite collabs lately.
Each of the seasons has a special theme which guides how the game changes. in some seasons, this theme is really strong. With the entire map re-done, weapons that fit the theme, and more all tying in. Making the whole of Battle Royale a full experience. In others, it’s a bit different and is more of a general word that seems only partially related to the game. But each of the Fortnite season themes gives us a clear idea of what’s going on.

Those are all of the Fortnite season themes we’ve seen over the years, but how much does it actually impact gameplay? It does vary from season to season.
Some seasons have incredibly vague themes. Like “Pacific Break”. it’s roughly what inspired the Chapter 7 map, but the content of the season seems to have been dictated by whatever collab was in the game at any given point. With relatively few themed items. Similarly, Chapter 6 Season 4 was supposed to be about a bug invasion. But it removed that entirely half way through and replaced it with Halloween collabs.

Essentially, it seems the Fortnite season themes are only really as important as the updates want them to be. Seasons can completely abandon their themes if they want. While some seasons, like the Heists ones, have strong gameplay themeing. Most are just another Fortnite season with an extra item or two. It really just comes down to how much content those themes have to work with.
While the Fortnite season themes isn’t that strong in every season, the same themes have popped up more than once. Epic always changes the wording to these themes slightly. But we’ve had multiple Fortnite seasons about heists, crime, specific collabs, and the new map seasons are quite similar conceptually. Not to mention the many, many, superhero seasons we’ve seen.

Some of these do still manage to feel unique though. With Fortnite going on to nearly 40 seasons now, it is getting harder to think of entirely unique themes. Having some that crossover with territory covered in previous popular seasons isn’t really a bad thing.
The Fortnite Season themes still have quite a lot of space to explore. We’ll have to see if the themes for Chapter 7 continue to hit familiar territory. The themes for the latter half of the season aren’t very specific yet, so we don’t really know what’s coming next.
And stay up to date on all the latest trends in esports
