It’s been a hell of a weekend here in Berlin with a lot of Counter-Strike on display. But now, after 4 maps, The MongolZ have won it all and claimed the $500,000 1st place prize as well as the Thunderpick World Championship trophy.
The atmosphere was electric for MongolZ fans virtually from minute 1 and that hype certainly helped them out on the first map. Even when Heroic were looking to be building up their eco on T side in the same way they did against OG in the semi finals, MongolZ found a way back in and took the first W of the night.
It turned into quite the back and forth series. Heroic hit back hard and took MongolZ down decisively on their own map pick of Ancient before MongolZ hit them with the “no u” on map 3. It almost went to overtime but they managed to clinch out the map win with with a 13-11 scoreline.
By map 4, Heroic were getting tired. They just didn’t seem to have their usual spark and with MongolZ taking a huge advantage on T side of Mirage, it was all locked in. Now, MongolZ can go home half a million dollar richer.

I was actually quite gutted to have got this prediction correct. While OG are likely not super happy with this result, we did see them make a massive improvement over previous tournaments this year. Fourth place is nothing to sniff at.
While things looked a little rough at the start of the series, 3DMAX kept it together long enough to pull off a reverse sweep and did it in style. They’ll take home $70,000 of the prize pool.
With the Thunderpick World Championship at an end, it’s time to turn out attention to the Perfect World Shanghai Major. We only have to wait until November 11th for RMRs to kick off so stay tuned.
