The MongolZ are on fire right now, that much is safe to say. After taking a very decisive victory over Heroic at the Thunderpick World Championship, they have kept their form through the APAC RMR and qualified for the PW Shanghai Major.

The MongolZ Are First to Qualify for PW Shanghai Major

Valve Regional Standings put MongolZ ahead

We haven’t seen them lift many S tier trophies yet but the MongolZ are the best in their region by a country mile. They qualified for the RMR via the Valve Regional Standings, which currently has them over 500 points ahead of the 2nd place team, FlyQuest.

MongolZ’ results have been getting steadily better over this year. After winning the Yallas Cup back in June, they almost managed to make the playoffs at the Esports World Cup, IEM Cologne and IEM Rio. If they continue on this trajectory, we may be treated to a live audience performance in Shanghai. If the fans keep the same energy they did at the Thunderpick World Championhsip, we’re in for a real treat.

Can MongolZ win the Shanghai Major?

Majors are a huge deal in the world of competitive CS and after placing 15th-16th in Copenhagen back in March, MongolZ will be out for blood. They placed 1st in the RMR for that Major too and while I don’t think history is set to repeat itself, they’ve got a long way to go before they’re ready to take down the likes of Navi and G2.

Sure, the Major is going to be a lot tougher than other tournaments but it’s also worth mentioning they’ve got a lot more experience and a 7th-8th place finish at IEM Rio under their belt now. It’s not off the cards entirely that we could get a Major (pun intended) upset.
