Counter-Strike 2 players, it’s time to get a little bit hype. After the conclusion of the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, which saw Vitality crowned CS2 Major winners for the first time, we’re officially into the player break, and there’s reason to suggest that this week could be huge for Counter-Strike 2 fans.
If we cast our minds back to late January, when Valve launched Premier Season 2 and officially added Train to the competitive map pool, the blog post, titled “Seasons Change,” had an interesting hint at the future. Near the conclusion of the post, it says, “when Season Two comes to a close after the Austin Major.”
Well, the BLAST Austin Major is finished, and CS2 Premier Season 2 is still ongoing. In fairness, it just ended, so you have to give Valve a chance to actually release the new CS2 update. However, this means that this week could very well be an exciting one for Counter-Strike 2 fans. Each night, we’ll get to see whether Valve actually releases Premier Season 3 and lives up to its previous promise. The studio typically launches large CS2 updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so they’re the days to look out for Season 3 this week.
Remember, though: Valve are still Valve. And Valve Time is a very real thing. They release new CS2 updates on their own schedule, no matter what they’ve said in the past. Let’s keep an eye out for Counter-Strike 2 Premier Season 3 this week, but don’t be surprised to see Valve Time become a factor in this one.
Many assume that the launch of CS2 Premier Season 3 will come with a change to the Active Duty map pool. A fair assumption, given that the same happened at the start of Premier Season 2. It’s known that Valve recently purchased Cache from creator FMPONE, leading some to believe it’s next in line to make a return after a six-year Active Duty hiatus.
The truth is, probably not. Valve have only just gotten their hands on the Counter-Strike 2 version of the map, and will want to make their own tweaks before throwing it back into competitive play. It’s sad, I know. I want it back, too. I think it’s more likely we see an Overpass return, which would be welcomed. Regardless, it could be worth brushing up on your CS2 Cache callouts. You know, just in case.
