The BLAST Open Fall 2025 online Group Stage has reached its conclusion. Already, we’ve seen 16 teams whittled down to six in the latest event in the eternally busy Counter-Strike calendar. Two teams have even managed to lock down a spot in the top four without even playing a single stage match.
Although most of the teams were already secure prior to today’s matches, there were still a few nitty-gritty details to settle. Let’s talk a little about what happened as the final two Playoffs teams were deciding alongside who would secure those precious Semi-Final slots earlier than expected.
The big question of the last day of the BLAST Open Fall 2025 Groups was simple: who is picking up the final two Playoff spots in the lower bracket? Two matches would decide it: Fnatic vs. M80 and G2 vs. Spirit. A fight between minnows and a clash of titans.
As Fnatic faced M80, we were already guaranteed an underdog reaching the Playoffs of BLAST Open Fall. Few would have pegged these two teams as making it through before the event, not even the dedicated Fnatic fans or the most optimistic NA believer. I’ll be real, here: this was M80’s day. Great individual showings all around from the NA team, with particular plaudits going to the very talented Lake. On the other side of the server, it was only blameF who could deliver for Fnatic. M80’s qualification to the Playoffs will come as particularly disappointing to Fnatic’s CYPHER, who has narrowly missed out on the rare opportunity to play in front of a home crowd in London.
Last up were G2 and Spirit, and these two teams were determined to put on a show. It started with the trading of map picks – Spirit winning G2’s Mirage, and G2 winning Spirit’s Dust2. The last Playoffs spot was to be earned on Ancient. It was a total wash. G2, underdogs coming into the series, dispatched Spirit in absolutely brutal fashion, winning the final map 13:1. It took Spirit 10 rounds to even get a single one of their own on the board. BLAST Bounty winners just a few weeks ago, Spirit were relegated to a Group Stage finish here. Every time donk appeared on the playercam, we saw the image of a player with very little help on the server, and you can understand why he was so frustrated. Credit to G2, though – this was a huge compliment to the project they’re currently building, and I’m excited to see if they can bring the same energy to the stage in London.
The stakes were not quite as high in the Vitality vs. FaZe Clan and FURIA vs. MOUZ matches, with all four having already confirmed their places in the BLAST Open Fall 2025 Playoffs. London was awaiting these teams regardless of result, but you have to admit that a Semi-Final berth at this stage would be a nice bonus regardless.
First up was Vitality and FaZe, a series that told us an awful lot about these two teams right now. FaZe were able to take map one, and managed to throw away multiple series points on map two. However, it was the quality of Vitality that took it to a decider, with both maps going deep into double Overtime. It’s broky who may feel particularly aggrieved in this one, his haul of 37 kills on Nuke not quite enough to see this series over the line. It was clear that those Overtimes had fatigued FaZe more than Vitality, and it was the latter who took the third map in decisive fashion. Despite talk of a slump, it’s another Semi-Final secured for Vitality at BLAST Open Fall 2025.
But Vitality’s win was no surprise. Yet, the upper bracket would have one surprise in store for us yet in FURIA vs. MOUZ. The latter were heavily favored, but it was the continued FURIA resurgence that won the day. Impressively, they only required two maps to do so, with AWPer molodoy taking most of the plaudits for FURIA, as he has done so often of late. We’re really getting to see this international lineup become something of a Playoffs mainstay of late, but can they take a step further and make it to a Grand Final? Scratch that – can FURIA actually win a Tier 1 event in 2025? You’d be silly to rule it out on current form.
