As a rule, Valve is a very tight-lipped company. The studio rarely reveals what is to come in future CS2 updates, making it hard to know what’s in the works. However, each update leaves a trail behind of what Valve is currently developing, leading to CS2 leaks from dataminers. These unique insights aren’t a guarantee for future CS2 updates, but are interesting to ponder nonetheless.

CS2 Leaks: Pets, Map Remakes, Auctions, Retakes, and More

The current set of CS2 leaks floating around are particularly interesting, with pets, map remakes, auctions, retakes, and more touted in Counter-Strike’s future. Let’s take a look at what’s going on in the world of Counter-Strike leaks!

Will there be CS2 pets?

The first mention of CS2 pets was made almost two years ago, and it appears that Valve has been working on it ever since. New animations were recently found in the CS2 leaks by Gabe Follower, suggesting that players will be able to hold these “pets,” namely chickens, in the main menu or during the pre-match/switching sides animations.

That’s not all – these CS2 leaks suggest that players will be able to inspect pets in a set of first-person animations, one of which is pictured below. It’s not clear the exact purpose of this, and how far Valve is willing to go with it. You may even be able to buy skins for your CS2 pets!

There’s no timescale on these CS2 leaks, but the fact that pets have seemingly been in development since Counter-Strike 2’s launch suggests they can’t be far away.

CS2 Map Remakes: Snowy Cobblestone and Cache

According to the latest CS2 leaks, Valve are in development of several map remakes. The first of note is a snowy version of Cobblestone. References for this one began appearing in August 2023, before the launch of CS2. However, as of July 2025, dataminer Gabe Follower claims it’s still in the works, with new materials for snow sparkles entering the game files quite recently.

The original Cobblestone has never made its way to CS2, but with the rainy version of Train, Valve has shown a desire to spruce up classic maps with unique weather effects, even in competitive CS2 maps. This is why I think when Cobblestone arrives, the snowy version will replace the older iteration altogether.

Of the CS2 map remakes featured in recent Counter-Strike leaks, there’s, of course, Cache. It’s no great secret that Valve bought Cache from FMPONE a while ago, so it makes sense that it would be looking to add it to the game at some point. FMPONE’s remake was added to the Steam Workshop in March 2025, but recent CS2 leaks indicate that Valve is actually remaking the remake with smartprops. For those who liked the aesthetic of the new Cache CS2 version, don’t worry – Valve isn’t necessarily overhauling it. It just needs some optimization under the hood, and there’s no indication that the developer has any intention of changing its cool new look.

CS2 leaks indicate item auctions are coming (sort of)

CS2 leaks have also indicated that item auctions could be on the way, but not in the way you might think. Instead, these auctions will be tied to the Armory system. As Gabe Follower again revealed, the alleged plan is for Valve to add limited-edition items to the Armory, which players will be able to wager their earned Armory Credits (stars) on. The player who has bid the most stars at the end of the auction timer wins. However, players are unable to see the current highest bid, and if you don’t win, it appears that you lose your stars completely, so it’s a dangerous game.

CS2 Armory Auctions Leaks

Players will apparently be able to withdraw their bets before the deadline, and one of the planned rewards is a chicken egg, which will reportedly tie into the aforementioned CS2 pets system. If this Counter-Strike leak is to be believed, there are big changes on the way.

CS2 Retakes are supposedly coming back

While you can play CS2 Retakes in community servers, many players have lamented their disappearance in an official capacity. No need to worry – CS2 leaks (again from Gabe Follower) suggest that Retakes will soon be back in action.

This will give players the chance to quickly retake and defend post-plants in CS2, and is arguably one of the best ways to get better at the game in general. This is one Counter-Strike leak to watch, for sure.
