CS2 XP Overload: What is it and when does it reset?

CS2 XP Overload is a feature added at the beginning of 2024 to stop Counter-Strike players from earning too much XP every week. You earn XP by playing matches and completing missions, but getting XP Overload in CS2 is only available to the most dedicated players who play a ton of games every single week.

CS2 XP Overload: What is it and when does it reset?

What is CS2 XP Overload?

CS2 XP Overload is a small badge that appears on your profile whenever you earn a total of 11,166 XP in a week. This is visible to other players, indicating that you’ve played your fair share of Counter-Strike that week. You can upgrade your CS2 XP Overload through seven tiers, although if you miss a week, you must begin again from the start.

Functionally, CS2 XP Overload doesn’t exactly do much. In fact, it comes with a huge caveat. Once you reach XP Overload in CS2 by earning 11,166 XP, any XP you get for the rest of that week will come at a massively reduced rate (0.175x). For most, this won’t matter all too much, although it’s certainly frustrating if you’re a new player trying to reach Level 10 and access Premier mode for the first time.

When does CS2 XP Overload status reset?

After you earn CS2 XP Overload status, you have a week from when the Weekly Drops reset to get the next rank. This comes every Tuesday, after which you’ll have seven days to renew your CS2 XP Overload by getting the 11,166 XP required.

If you miss the chance to renew your XP Overload in CS2, you’ll have to start from the very bottom tier again.

Best ways to get XP Overload in CS2

To get CS2 XP Overload quickly, it’s worth knowing what game modes give the best XP rates. They are as follows:

  • Premier: 30 XP per round won – maximum 480XP per game (Overtime included).
  • Competitive: 30 XP per round won – maximum 390 XP per game.
  • Wingman: 15 XP per round won – maximum 135 XP per game.
  • Deathmatch: 0.2 XP per score point – XP depends on individual performance.
  • Casual: 4 XP per score point – XP depends on individual performance.

Overall, I’d say that Deathmatch offers the best XP return quickly in CS2, especially if you’re quite good at the game. Remember, to earn XP in these game modes, you need to actually stay in the matches to the very end, or it won’t count towards your CS2 XP Overload progress!
