MKOI Myrwn on the Worlds song: “I see a lot of people complaining because it’s not like Warriors… But I think they are just d**k riders of Warriors.”

Tough times for MKOI as they go 0-2 after the regional battle against G2 Esports. We spoke with MKOI Myrwn after the series to hear his thoughts on the match, his top five top laners at Worlds, and which are his favorite Worlds songs.

Davide: It’s unfortunate you weren’t able to take the win.

Can you walk me through a little bit about the match but also about what happened after the series against KT yesterday?

Myrwn: I will start with KT. I think after the series we had a talk about things we need to improve because I think we did some things pretty well in that game. But also when for example [during] Atakhan, I didn’t play slow in the teamfight. I think we had a good position and we didn’t really use it.

The core was fine and I think it’s something we were looking forward to today, but it didn’t happen. We also didn’t have many opportunities as yesterday since we were in machine control. And I think today, for example, I completely underperformed.

Davide: I saw that MKOI kind of changed the way you guys drafted from red to blue side. We’ve seen the same picks being rotated but at the same time [it feels like] each team comes with their own meta read.

Can you walk me a little bit through about what you think about the current meta?

Myrwn: I mean I think it’s the same meta [to] the summer finals we played in Madrid. I think the only thing that got a bit stronger was Jax, like all the other champs didn’t really get changed. I would say nothing has got changed, honestly, so [it’s] at least the meta I’m comfortable with. It’s something we already explored all last split.

Davide: Some of your teammates told me that you were quite confident, especially in the last few days. Scrims were going well.

What’s the thing that has been stopping from like you guys from making that transition from scrims to on stage?

Myrwn: I mean, I’m not 100% sure because I think yesterday for example, we had a really good showing and it was just few details, and today I didn’t really have much time to reflect after the loss.

I think yesterday my performance was quite good and [it] might be just mindset wise and I will have to look more deep into it and just reflect when I have the time today, and just be ready for the next match because I think we have a really great opportunity. I don’t want to throw it away. We [can still] play a lot of games into the best teams, so I want to do that.

Davide: Do you think that it could be actually an advantage getting to play more games?

Will that allow you to get some time to bounce back and refind that confidence?

Myrwn: 100%. In Europe we are the experts of game five or game four. We like making the series go really long and I think it can be the same thing for here. We like playing official matches. I wouldn’t call it a blessing because no one likes being 0-2, but we still have the opportunity. We have one more life and we just have to make use of it and bounce back, ramp up, and be in our best form, which I still believe can [allow us to do] great things.

Davide: I wanted to ask you about Chinese soloqueue because Supa said that he really enjoyed playing solo queue here. It’s very messy,

How is it to play in soloqueue as a top laner?

Myrwn:  The first days I didn’t really like it honestly,  because I was just facing Flash-Ignite top laners all the time and they would just do nothing until there’s like one all in. That’s how they would play.

But after I climbed some Elo, I started finding really good players in lane. I was surprised because even in like low Master, people put effort in playing [the] laning phase. I was surprised and I like it now.

I need your top five top laners at Worlds, ranked in order

Myrwn: I’ve always been a Zeus fan. I would say [he’s] my top one then Kiin. Then my poor boy, TheShy.

Davide: I wanted to actually talk about TheShy as well, because he played Varus top lane against T1 in the playing stage. What do you think? Do you want to say anything about that?

Myrwn: I didn’t like the build much honestly, I think it could’ve been way better. But honestly, [it] matches with his playstyle, I [just] don’t think [it matches] the team playstyle that much.

I think [on] IG this year, he was more of a tank duty playstyle. So changing maybe wasn’t the best. But I can see in a game 4, it’s a good idea and a good approach. I think it plays to his strengths. It didn’t really show in official but I was pretty sure that IG would win into T1 but this didn’t happen. It was completely the opposite. But yeah, I would still rate my boy TheShy top 3.

Then I would say Bin, he’s pretty strong. [His] Rek’Sai didn’t look too great, [but] I think bad games can happen to anyone. From playing [vs] him in scrims, I think he’s really strong. He comes in a really good form and I would say Doran. They are my top five.

Davide: How’s the time being in China so far? Supa said he was enjoying it but at the same time he was missing the Spanish food.

Does that work the same for you as well?

Myrwn: In Shanghai, it was a bit rough because it was super humid and hot, so I didn’t really like it. In Beijing, outside is super cold so I like that and it’s super windy. I like that type of weather.

I love the food, it’s pretty good. But it’s true, I think if you are here for for some weeks you might get bored of the same type of food all the time. Maybe it’s [the] fault of our performance Coach Cardonetti that only orders the same things over and over.

Davide: What does he order for you guys?

Myrwn: I mean honestly it’s pretty variety but we have a lot of rice.

Davide: Supa told me he missed his bocadillos and he was saying the team doesn’t want you to eat gluten that much.

Myrwn: Yeah, it’s what he told us. We are banned from eating bread, which kind of sucks, you know, for the Spanish players, because it’s what you always eat at home. You have some bread next to you, but I understand that we’re not allowed to and that might be one of the reasons why we won this year so [we] keep trusting on the process.

Davide: The last question is about the Worlds song.

What do you think about it? Did you like it? What’s your top one or top three Worlds songs?

Myrwn: I mean, I loved it. I see a lot of people complaining because it’s not like Warriors. But I think they are just d**k riders of Warriors. It’s a pretty good song but the thing is they are writing as if it’s [the] best song ever released of all time. [For] my top one, I would say it’s Gods. It’s my favorite by far.

Davide: Are you a K-pop fan? What do you listen to?

Myrwn: Everything. Just everything.

Davide: Favorite artist?

Myrwn: LE SSERAFIM, probably. I mean, it was IZ*ONE when it existed, but that’s life. From boy bands, [it’s] Stray Kids, my favorite, and ENHYPEN. I listen to everything in general, but K-pop, I listen to every type of group.

And top 3, I would say Warriors because I like the song, but I just hate the people that just overrate it so much. What would be my top two? I’m not that sure, honestly, because I think almost every song is lit. Honestly, I would put Sacrifice. I’m really into the hype train of Sacrifice here.

Davide: You wouldn’t put RISE?

Myrwn: I like RISE, but I would put it on a top four since Sacrifice is [more] recent.

Message to the MKOI fans?

Myrwn: Yeah, I’m not sure when we’re playing next, but we’ll make sure that we train as much as possible. I’m sorry for the performance today. It’s not something I’m happy with.

I really want to use this opportunity because you don’t get to play into the best teams in the world that often. So, yeah, I will give my all in the next game, make sure this won’t happen again. We still have a life and [we want to] make the most of it, make out of Swiss and be in the top eight.
