It all comes down to one last series: fans will finally get their wish to see Gen.G and T1 face off in the MSI final in front of thousands of fans in Vancouver. Will Gen.G become back-to-back MSI champions, or will T1 claim their third championship to match RNG? Here is our preview before the big match later today.
This isn’t just another best-of-five. This is the culmination of the two strongest teams at the mid-way point of the season and we will finally see them fight for glory, something fans have missed out on in the LCK playoffs.
T1 has finally been able to pull it together after a troublesome start to the season, following the departure of top laner Zeus. Doran, who struggled initially, has now looked convincingly better, to the point where people seem not to regret ZOFGK.
Ever since the LCK Road to MSI, the guy has been a key to the team’s success. While he doesn’t have the same firepower as his predecessor in terms of raw carry potential, Fearless Draft allows him to take advantage of the lane matchups and play accordingly to his team’s game plan. Paired with consistent performances from the rest of the team, T1 has been solid in playing the macro game throughout MSI.
This has been a clear trend ever since T1 re-discovered the dragon stacking strategy. The small issue could be that when T1 isn’t able to capture the early objectives, things can get tricky for them. It happened during the series against Anyone’s Legend and also in the upper bracket final against Gen.G, as all three teams seem to stick to the same macro strategy to close out games.
Therefore, teamfights are likely going to be the key to the entire series. While a lot will come to draft, the general idea is that Gen.G is usually more consistent in this regard. On the other hand, however, T1 can find good enough advantages through Oner and Keria, who are always on the lookout for plays to punish the opponents.
With Fearless Draft taking the spotlight at this year’s MSI, however, the decisive factor is likely to be on the coaching staff. Both Kkoma and Kim will have to put their players into comfortable positions, and considering it’s likely going to Silver Scrapes, the champion choices in each game will have heavy consequences on the decisive game 5.
Considering the recent series and the general trend of Silver Scrapes series at this year’s MSI, fans are in for yet another explosive match. This is probably one of the toughest series to predict in recent times and, to be honest, I don’t have a set team chosen at the time of writing this.
I know Gen.G can potentially have the upper hand due to how consistent they have been since the start of the tournament, but at the same time, something is telling me T1 always has that ‘X factor’ when it comes to grand finals. Will the script prevail? There is only one way to find out!
