Following the incredible series against T1 in the upper bracket finals of the MSI playoffs, we sat down with Gen.G Ruler to give him a gift and chat with him about the series.

The interview was done in Korean. Below you can find the translated transcript.

Gen.G Ruler – as a pro gamer, the games I want to showcase are fun matches like this one

Daniel: Before we get into the interview. There’s a person named Ari from the Riot Global Comms team and she insisted I ask this next question. You have a puppy, right?

Ruler: Yes.

Daniel: What tricks have you taught the puppy?

Ruler: Our puppy knows ‘Nose’, ‘Paw’, and…There’s something called a kennel for dogs. If I say “Kennel”, she knows to go in it.

Daniel: When I was doing my research, it said you didn’t reveal her name?

Ruler: It’s Chanel.

Daniel: Ah, Chanel. Maybe it was a meme floating around? I thought the no-name reveal was just a meme floating around? Have you heard about this?

Ruler: What’s the meme, sorry?

Daniel: The fact that you won’t do a name reveal for the puppy? Nope. I already revealed the name. Lots of people already know the name, and they shower her with love.

Daniel: I was misinformed. It might be because the name doesn’t show up on search results.

Give us your overall thoughts on tonight’s series.

Ruler: It was not easy. I think it was… Pretty exhausting.

Daniel: Whenever you play against T1, does it feel like you lost every ounce of energy in your body?

Ruler: My energy is DRAINED everywhere in my body to my soul. I feel like death.

Daniel: Gen.G and T1. If you want to talk about one team, you have to talk about the other.

The community even dubbed this series “the unofficial LCK finals“. What are your thoughts on the name?

Ruler: It definitely feels good to hear that. It’s evidence that our region is that strong.

Daniel: How do you rate your own gameplay in this series?

Ruler: In terms of my own gameplay, I’d say a 7-8.

Daniel: How about as a team?

Ruler: As a team…There were games that we played well but also threw, so maybe a 6… or 7 out of 10.

So the two LPL teams play each other, then the winners play T1 for the finals spot. Which team would you rather face?

Ruler: I think facing T1 would be the most fun. Yeah. I’d really like to play against T1.

Daniel: Even after feeling exhausted after playing them tonight?

Ruler: Even so…they were playing really well, so it made playing the game that much more fun. I really liked how that series felt, so I want to go further.

Daniel: (The high level gameplay) makes the game more fun to play?

Ruler: In the end, I… As a pro gamer, the games I want to showcase are fun matches like this, and I hope for the Finals to be a fun one like tonight.

Daniel: This isn’t our first interview together. Actually, before we talk about that, I have a gift for you, Ruler.

Ruler: Oh?

Daniel: Do you know what it is?

Ruler: I think I’ve seen this before a while ago?

Daniel: So, back in 2021, McDonald’s released these cards in collaboration with the LCK. Because of the brand power of McDonald’s, cards like these can be worth quite a bit.

Ruler: Really?

Daniel: Yep!

Daniel: This is actually a gift for you, so please take care of it.

Ruler: Okay. I’ll make sure to cherish it forever.

Daniel: Thank you.

Ruler: Who knows? I might sell it off.

Daniel: If I see it on the marketplace, I’ll know it’s you.

Ruler: Wow, but this is very rare. This was back in 2021?

Daniel: So when McDonald’s releases Pokémon cards, some can get really pricey.

Ruler: Among the players on this card, a lot of them are inactive, so it makes it more rare.

Daniel: Right. Right… So please take good care of it.

Ruler: I’ll make sure to take great care of it.

How do you compare yourself now to back in 2021?

Ruler: At the time… It was very tough. The games didn’t go the way I wanted, and I really wasn’t confident in myself back then. So…There was a lot of trouble on my mind. If I compare myself to now, I’ve matured, I’m more knowledgeable, and I am in a position where I can help my teammates.

Daniel: When we last talked in an interview setting, I remember asking you, “What is your dream?” At the time, to memory, you said, “The little successes that you achieve in your life will mean you are one step closer to your dream”.

What are some of those little successes that you achieved this season so far?

Ruler: I can humbly say, getting exercise. I’m consistently working out nowadays, I think something like that is my ‘little success’.The goal for that is to lose weight, gain muscle. Yeah, I’d say exercise.

Daniel: Lastly, please share a few words with fans and viewers.

Ruler: Today’s match was not an easy one, but I’m glad that we won. We’re going to keep going, whether it’s in or outside the game, I’ll make sure to showcase maturity, so please continue to cheer for us.
