If you’re stuck on the ranked ladder, here are the best tips on how to climb out of low elo in LoL (League of Legends) in 2025.

A complete guide on how to get out of Low Elo in LoL
Just like any competitive game, climbing up the ranks can be a good indicator of a player’s growth and improvement over time. That being said, climbing out of low Elo can be a challenge for many, especially in dynamic and complicated games like LoL.
According to the stats site League of Graphs, a large majority of the player base (close to 60%) is placed in the three lowest ranks in the game (Iron, Bronze, and Silver). In comparison, the top three ranks (Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger) do not even makeup 1% of the total player base.

So what do the best players in the world do better or differently to consistently be at the top of the ranked ladder? As someone who has previously climbed up the LoL ranks in past seasons, here are some of my favorite tips and tricks on how to get out of low Elo.
1. Assess your level of play
Improving and mastering League of Legends is not much different from learning other things in life. By having a good method and enough introspection, you can always find ways to improve. Even the best players in the world make mistakes, so don’t get flustered if you happen to make them.
Before we go into the strategic aspects of the game, it’s important to first understand what your current level is and what are your main weaknesses. My first piece of advice is to watch and study a few of your games and see if you can spot any common or big mistakes you have made. If you’re able to do that, you will be on a great trajectory to improving. Ever heard of the saying “Finding a problem is the hardest part“?

There might be times, however, where you can’t really spot mistakes or you might not know the answer to fix certain aspects of your gameplay. Below we have listed some of the most basic ones:
- Poor Mechanics: Many players are not able to maximize their champions’ mechanics, missing combos or skill shots which heavily impact damage output and kill opportunities.
- Bad laning phase: poor management of minion waves and trading patterns can lead to disastrous outcomes and potential snowball from the enemy team.
- Champion choice: difficult champions require more time to make them work and the learning curve can be quite steep initially.
- Inconsistent Decision-Making: overextending or excessive greed in making plays, as well as poor map awareness, are common mistakes made across all lower ends of the ranked ladder.
- Lack of Macro Knowledge: it’s one of the hardest aspects to master in the game but great macro can often make up for poorer fundamentals.
- Weak mental: if you play in the game in a negative mindset, your gameplay and decision-making will be heavily affected.
Usually, there is a combination of several factors that impact your gameplay and thus, your ranking. To help you out, I’ve prepared a few tricks and tips that should do the work.
2. Focus on fundamentals
There are a few aspects in LoL that are considered core skills and must be mastered if you want to climb out of low Elo. The first one is minion farm (also known as Creep Score, or CS) and experience, which allows you to level up your champion and gain access to better stats and stronger abilities.
Compared to kills which grant 300 gold and a bit of experience, CS is much more important in the lower ends of the ranked ladder. Losing farm inefficiently can lead to great gaps that are harder to recover late in the game. You should aim for at least 7 CS per minute. The top players usually have over 10, with ADCs getting even higher averages.

If you’re not able to farm well, make sure that you’re at least able to get the minion experience when it dies. Remember that the range to receive XP is 1600. A good tip is to toggle the experience gains, so you know exactly how much experience you’re gaining with each minion.
3. Champion choice is key to climb out of low Elo in LoL
Although you’re free to play any champion you would like, it’s usually better to play champions with friendly kits and easy-to-master. Highly skilled champions require great mechanics which increase the volatility of your gameplay. We have created a list of the best champions for beginners for the 2025 season, which should help increase your chances of victory.

Otherwise, you can focus on playing specific champions that have great solo carry potential. These are typically the best to 1v9 games by pooling most of the gold and experience to yourself and taking over skirmishes. That being said, you must be consistently on the top of your game and make as little mistakes as possible. Here are a few champions with great carry potential, based on each role:
- Top: Jax, Camille, Riven
- Jungle: Diana, Lillia, Master Yi
- Mid: Katarina, Kassadin
- ADC: Kai’Sa, Jinx
- Support: Pyke, Lux
4. Decision Making and Macro
Decision-making is probably as important, if not more important than mechanics in League of Legends. Ultimately, LoL is a strategic game where each decision or choice can have positive or negative consequences on the outcome of the game.
Deciding when to take fights or how to properly perform a turret dive are all decisions you can freely decide to commit or not depending on the situation. Great decision-making leads to positive results the majority of the time, and even in scenarios where things go bad, it’s probably going to be due to mechanics rather than something else.

The best way to make the correct calls or decisions is by gauging as much information as possible. Whether it’s player movements, neutral objective spawn timers, or even item spikes, you have to absorb and elaborate the pieces of information as quickly as possible. In this way, you can reduce uncertainty and volatile situations, and ultimately capitalize on the correct plays. Some of the most common mistakes in decision-making and some of the questions you need to give yourself answers to:
- Overextending – will you be punished by the enemy team if you overcommit?
- Bad Fights – are we fighting with the correct number of players or do we have the correct power spikes?
- Objectives – can you contest the objective or is it better to trade by making plays elsewhere on the map?
- Vision control – which areas are likely going to be warded by the enemy team? Are they aware of what the team wants to do next?
- Tempo – am I allowed to recall/reset at this particular moment? Are we too late to start an objective after a successful play?
- Map awareness – where are the enemies on the map? Am I susceptible to a gank or dive? Will it heavily impact the matchup giving a kill?
- Play from behind – Should I focus on farming and not trading with the enemy? Should I roam around the map to look for other opportunities?
- Summoners’ Spells – which summoners’ spells do they have? It’s usually important to track Flash and Teleports above the rest.
There are often times when you won’t be able to give yourself answers to a lot of these questions. In that case, you can either take the risk, hoping it goes well or take the conservative approach. In the end, it’s a matter of playstyles. I usually tend to have a more conservative mindset, and only push myself in the game state is in a desperate situation.
5. Climbing with the Right Mentality
While some players might think it’s not a big deal, I believe that having a positive attitude can be greatly beneficial for players looking to climb the ranked ladder. I used to think as long as I was great mechanically and had good game knowledge, I could easily climb to the top of the ranks. It turns out that having good mental means more than everything else.
Don’t blame the team
First of all, avoid blaming your team. Yes, I think we’ve all been tilted at times, especially if enemies run down the game on purpose. That said, what can you really do about it? Nothing. It’s inevitable – focus on what you can control and that is yourself. Mute them if they are bothering you in the chats or pings and stay focused on the game.

Take bad game states as an opportunity to learn how to play from behind and if there’s anything can you do to turn it around. While chances are low, the few times it happens are actually the ones that can impact your win rate in soloQ down the line.
Stay calm and don’t get flustered by mechanical misplays
I used to be strict with myself whenever I wasn’t able to perform plays like I imagined or wanted because I wanted to be as perfect as possible. The thing is that it will give you more pressure and increase the chances of tilting. If you hit that stage, your whole gameplay will be affected, from your mechanics to your decision-making.
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve got while climbing was to take small breaks every two or three ranked games. It can be even five minutes but disconnecting your brain from the game will allow you to get into a better condition. If you’re extremely tilted, I recommend taking showers (I’m not joking by the way) – it helps cool off your brain, gives you the right amount of rest, and you’ll also feel clean and refreshed! A win-win solution.
6. Review your games and ask for help from coaches
If you feel like you’re plateauing and not improving at all, the best solution is to find qualified coaches and review game knowledge. While the former requires spending a few bucks, it’s worth the investment since it should allow you to accelerate the time required to improve and climb.

The cheaper alternative is to watch high-elo streamers or professional players to understand their mechanics and review YouTube guides to learn the theoretical aspects of the game.
Overall, getting out of low Elo in LoL is like mastering any skill in life. It requires time and dedication, as well as ambition and drive to improve. With the right mentality and approach, you will be able to reach great goals. And remember, trust the process.
