LEC Versus Playoffs – A shocking top 8 finish

According to the tournament format, the top eight teams after the end of the single round robin get to advance to the LEC Versus Playoffs. Prior to the last match day, only three teams had locked their qualification: Karmine Corp (KC), NAVI, and GIANTX (GX).

While it was an expected result from KC to see them among the top teams, NAVI and GX’s strong start to the 2026 campaign came to a surprise. In particular, NAVI defied all expectations, showcasing not only dominant wins but also outstanding performances from its rookies, top laner Volodymyr ‘Maynter‘ Sorokin and Enes ‘Rhilech‘ Uçan. GX kept the strong trend from the previous season, led by the strong bot lane duo of Oh ‘Noah‘ Hyeon-taek and Yoon ‘Jun‘ Se-jun.

The other five playoff spots were contended between seven teams: Los Ratones, G2 Esports, Fnatic, Team Heretics, MKOI, Shifters and Team Vitality (VIT). The former five were all tied with the same score, which meant that a win would guarantee them automatic qualification. Three of these five teams were successful: Team Heretics beat KC, KOI defeated NAVI, and G2 took down Fnatic. Team Vitality, on the other hand, took two victories in the last week to close out in the top three with a 7-4 score, including the heartbreaking loss inflicted to Los Ratones.

Speaking of LR, it was one of the most shocking turn of events in recent esports history. After starting the day with a +90% chance of qualifying to playoffs and even taking a lead against Team Vitality, the team ended up finishing in ninth place, just one place away from making it.

Aside from the loss against VIT, few expected the top teams like KC and NAVI to lose to their respective opponents, Team Heretics and MKOI. Those two unlike scenarios still happened, which left the evening’ hopes on FNC to take down G2. Unfortunately for LR, G2 turned up once again after a poor showing on the previous day, putting an end to LR’s playoffs dreams. Due to the won head-to-head with LR, FNC ended up snatching the last spot.

Together with LR, Shifters also ended up getting eliminated, despite the 2-0 week. SK Gaming was also eliminated after dropping both series in the last week, joining Karmine Corp Blue at the bottom of the standings. The KC academy team will head back to the LFL on a positive note, however, having beaten GX on the last day.

LEC Versus Playoff Bracket

Now that the top 8 has been locked in, the Round 1 matches of playoffs have also been confirmed. KC will go up against GX, with NAVI facing FNC in the other side of the bracket. The two remaining matchups are Team Heretics and G2 Esports, as well as Team Vitality and MKOI.

Teams will finally move to the Fearless Draft format now that series will be best-of-three. The LEC Versus Playoffs will kick off next Monday on February 16, starting at 16:45 CET. The winner of the LEC Versus will be the EMEA representative at First Stand, the first global tournament of the 2026 LoL Esports calendar.
