There are fewer tournaments this season than we expected, with the FNCS delayed until C7 S2. But we’re still getting some, like the Nvidia Fortnite Cup. Strangely, this will bring back the Rust Bucket Fortnite item. A back bling that’s been missing from the game for over 2,800 days. It’s a strange prize pool but it will mean some players can get a GeForce RTX 5080 for free too.
These are coming as prizes for the Nvidia Fortnite Cup. This is an exclusive tournament coming from Epic and Nvidia, where players can compete for special hardware and a cosmetic reward. The tournament is taking place very soon, December 21st. If you want to get involved, it’s running in all regions for this game this week! This is what you can expect:
The Nvidia Fortnite Cup is a brand-new tournament that’s coming this week. It’s a Solo Fortnite esports event, which is a bit of a rarer format. Normally we see Fortnite esports sticking to Duos, or Trios. This one will be held in each region, with custom graphics cards up for grabs as the top prize.
The other part of the prizing though is that the Rust Bucket Fortnite back bling that is making a return. This will be given out to a lot more players. It’s available for gaining eight points in the tournament total, for anyone at all. Not that easy, but it should be achievable for a lot of players.

The Nvidia Fortnite Cup is going to be held for everyone in-game, but you need to be in Gold Rank or higher for the game. This can be in the normal Fortnite Ranked mode or Zero Build. That’s the only real requirement. Since this isn’t technically a cash tournament, it doesn’t have the same 14-tournament rule.
Even if the prize is a bit more valuable than a lot of prize pools for Cash tournaments. The requirements for taking part are lower this time. The top-ranking players will get the MSI Gaming Trio White GeForce RTX 5080 Graphics Card. Definitely a prize worth competing for.

The weirdest thing about this tournament isn’t the Cup itself, but that back bling. This is a back bling that was first released back in Season 3. One of the earliest Fortnite seasons. But it was free, and that’s something that’s being kept with the Nvidia Fortnite Cup, at least.
The back bling could be claimed from the item shop for 0 V-Bucks. It was available for a few days only. The Rust Bucket wasn’t released like a normal item, where it was in the shop to be bought and could come back whenever. It was something of an apology.
Back in Season 3, Fortnite had downtime. The game went offline for over 15 hours. To date, it’s the second longest unplanned downtime. the live event aftermath has overdone it sometimes, but those are planned. Chapter 5 Season 2 was a little longer too, but that was a seasonal changeover that got extended. The Rust Bucket Fortnite back bling was an apology or a major outage.
It was exclusive to players back then. Free so everyone could get it, but nothing too elaborate. It is now being brought back in some way. As a consolation prize in the Nvidia Fortnite Cup. It’s a strange inclusion as a prize. But this does mean a few more players will be able to get the rust bucket.
